Eurosonic Noorderslag 2015 | Official aftermovie

Looking back at Eurosonic Noorderslag 2015 it's fair to say that it was a truly multi-faceted and all-embracing 29th edition. 345 Acts performed to an audience of 41,200 music lovers in 50 different venues in the city of Groningen (NL). With the addition of the European Production Innovation Conference & Fair (EPIC) and more venues to the overall programme, the event sold out earlier than previous years and attracted 3,900 industry professionals from all over the world.

Conference
The Eurosonic Noorderslag conference was characterised by a broad range of discussions and presentations covering all kinds of innovation in the music sector. The European Production Innovation Conference & Fair (EPIC) focused on the latest developments at venues and festivals.
Other highlights included 'The German Live Market', 'The Festival Panel', 'Backstage! A Retrospective by the Most Experienced Production Managers' and the keynotes from Karsten Jahnke (Karsten Jahnke Konzertdirektion, DE), Duncan Stutterheim (SFX, NL), Alex Macleod (US), Lennart van der Meulen (VPRO, NL) and Nic Jones (Vevo, UK). The Saturday programme followed on just as strongly with the inclusion of political debates about the unifying power of music for society, an extended media programme and practical workshops for artists.

Best bits of the festivals
With a line-up of acts from 29 countries, Eurosonic has proven to be a genuine melting pot of European music. So far, 186 acts have been selected by European festivals in the ETEP programme, and this year’s focus country Iceland showcased 19 promising new acts. The Dutch pop music industry is on the rise with acts like Birth of Joy scoring a host of European festival bookings, Kensington playing sell out shows across Holland and The Common Linnets winning several awards.

Awards
On the opening night of the event the Public Choice Award, a category of the European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), was won by The Common Linnets, who also won the highly sought after Dutch Pop Prize 2014. Other awards included the Pop Media Award, which went to Atze de Vrieze of VPRO’s 3voor12, the Buma Music Meets Tech Award, which was won by the British start-up BandApp. At the 6th annual European Festival Awards ceremony some of the winners were Sziget Festival (Best Major Festival) and Melvin Benn (The Lifetime Achievement Award).

Eurosonic Noorderslag in the media
336 Media and journalists attended #ESNS15 including public broadcasters from Hungary, Serbia, Iceland, Finland, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, France, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Luxembourg and The Netherlands, broadcasting 41 hours of radio from Groningen. The EBBA show will be broadcast by more than 12 European TV stations in the upcoming year.
