I don't know the answer, but I'm working under the assumption that the pestilence is "natural" death, as he calls the disease "the Great Dying" and reminds the doctor that he doesn't age naturally like others, and thus, isn't "naturally" dying.

Something about this gives me Star Control 2 vibes. If I remember correctly the Arilou refused to tell humans about some serious dangers because then humans would start looking/seeing them and that would be bad. In addition to that we already have a creature who knows if you saw them and how to get to you if you did.

I'm not sure the title is accurate; more specifically the word "revealed". Nothing was revealed, was it? Just hints, the occasional possible connection, and the dodging of questions.

You know, maybe the answer to the question comes from that one doctor he befriended and then, to his dismay, had to kill because he suddenly had the Pestilence one day. Has anyone done any research into that instance? Did they check to see if anything changed in his life, personality, or attitude that could correlate with what happened that day? Maybe cross-reference things with the fact that 096 and 682 are both known to 'have' the Pestilence.

If you don’t know what the pestilence is, it is the Black Death/Bubonic plague from 1342 in Europe and what he is wearing is the traditional attire for a plague doctor during those dark times

I don't think it is a great idea to change subject when asked a personal questions. I don't think it is a good idea to treat him as a subject. What about trying to treat him like a human? Have a normal lovely convo with him about your and his life. You could then probably ask questions without offending him xd

I think I have figured out why 049 believes the pestilence, because he sees your sin. That is why he removes certain organs, for example, stomach for gluttony. That is why he sees it in certain people and some he doesnt. He most likely doesn't believe in religions of some kind, explaining why he denies religious questions. I also think that's why he says it's low in the foundation. Only the best are there.

There was connection between "it" in humanity's shared consciousness and 682. That last question asked to the plague doctor heavily implies that same idea, as well as his refusal to answer.

Then again... All if SCP is non-canon. This channel crafts its own canon. Perhaps in this canon it is. Makes no difference on scp as a whole.

The death theory is what I’ve suspected this whole time

I've always tried to find out what the pestilence is, but after this interview I just think there is no pestilence and SCP-049 is just using it to transfer organisms because he enjoys it. So he tries to pretend he knows all about it and that it's very simple so he doesn't have to say it, reasoning that every doctor should know what it is. This is my theory, which I will try to explore more from now on.
