Vergessen wir mal, wer diese Zerstörung angerichtet hat, die vermutlich auch bei anderen Städten nicht notwendig gewesen wär und vergessen wir für einige Minuten die Weltlage heute am 8. August 2024:

My father was sent by the US Air Force to Germany in 1955 to help rebuild the German Air Force. He was stationed at a former Luftwaffe air base near Landsberg, about 30 miles west of Munich. We went to Munich many times during 1955-1958 and I remember many of these buildings. There was still a lot of bomb damage from the war 10 years earlier, but by 1958 the Germans had rebuilt most everything. I was stationed in Germany myself 30 years later and visited Munich--a beautiful city and oh that beer.

My father was in the Army of the Occupation at Oberphaffenhofen AFB just outside of Munich during 1946-1948 and he was able to bring over my mom and me to live there. Although I was only 3 and 4 yrs. old, I still remember the destroyed building and bricks piled beside every street. We traveled a great deal to France and Italy and my parents really loved Berchtesgarden. We lived in a home in Steinebach on the lake and mom fed several orphaned kids who stayed at our home. My dad's
fellow B-24 pilots would always come over to our house during the weekend for barbecues and lots of drinking. I
was able to go to a German kindergarten because my parents wanted me to learn about other cultures and
traditions and when I had a birthday, we had all the kids from my school come to the base for ice cream and cake.
My classmates had never had cake or ice cream before so they were very excited. I still have great memories of Germany

I was in the US Army stationed in Munich 1970-1972. Loved it. Got to go to two October Fests!

My distant relative lived in Munich in 1945-1948, he worked for the American Red Cross and then as a policeman guarding the headquarters of the International Refugee Organization.

Here are some notes he wrote about Munich in his book:

"The German mark was pretty useless. There was nothing much in the shops. The currency really was american cigarettes. A packet was worth a hundred marks and two hundred marks was a working man's monthly wage, but the black market worked differently. If you had money there was nothing much to buy.Each adult used to get five packets of American cigarettes every month which was quite valuable for barter or if sold was worth a lot of money. For example to travel on trains the fares hadn't changed and for a monthly wage you could travel up and down the whole of Germany about four times.This was changed only in 1948 when the Americans changed the currency to the Deutchemark."

"The funniest thing was when one day near the museum called Haus der Deutchekunst was a Yank on guard. He was sitting in the comfortable chair with his shoes off, warming his feet on the sun, chewing gum and reading a comic,with his gun not too far away, but very relaxed. Some Germans going past said, 'Oh my God, to what sort of soldiers have we lost this war!'."

I went to Munich twice in 92 and 96 , I see these archive images , it is beautiful monument that have been restored and redone and courage for reconstruction well done , and thanks again for sharing

How could people not see this outcome considering Hitler wrote a book explaining his intentions.

So sad for Beautiful city was destroyed by war

And today, Munich is again so beautiful :) I am living in Munich from last 5 years.

Kommt es nur mir vor oder kann man am Anfang sehen dass der stadteil Au-Haidhausen fast komplett verschont blieb?

My father ended the war here, 759 Military Police Bn. Long road to get here, North Africa, Road to Rome, Invasion of Southern France, up to Saint Di France, then in to Germany ending in Munich. As a Military Policeman, he was in Dachau but would never speak of it, other then you had to push bodies into a grave, because they fell apart if you attempted to carry them.

Selbst Denkmalgeschütze Gebäude für die es "Nicht Angriffabkommen" gab wurden angegriffen, ja es gab nicht einen Pfennig für die Restaurierung. Ganze Städte wurden zerbombt, vor allem Zivilisten ermordet - Auch das wurde durch die "Haager Landkriegsordnung" verboten welche am 18.10.1907 vom Deutschen Reich, Österreich-Ungarn, der Schweiz, Frankreich, Großbritannien, Russland und die USA und noch einige mehr unterzeichnet wurde. Auch die durch Polen annektierten Gebiete fordern wir Deutschen bis heute zurück, egal was unsere durch alleierte eingesetzte nicht von uns gewählte Regierung sagt. Helmut Kohl wurde direkt von Polen auf dieses Problem angesprochen, seine Antwort war: "Dafür bin ich nicht zuständig!" Das vom einer West und Mitte Deutschlands, der Osten die polnischen Gebiete sind bis heute nicht geeint. Jeder dort geborene Pole gilt als deutsch! :D
