Once in a while Kubrick would let us know about the obvious narrative of his movies even tho the real meaning is drowned under layers of metaphors.

I hate to love and love to hate explanations of art. It's like explaining a joke, takes all the air out of it. This movie means so much to me, \changed how I think about life on a daily basis and it feels like that feeling is being stolen from me once the creator explains the art. Kubrick is my favorite director I'm puzzled why he would mouth off about his movie like this.

I know we’re supposed to assume the vague ending was intentionally vague, but if nobody can figure out what the ending means, you MIGHT have done a bad job directing it.

Not gonna lie, I was close.

I thought the monolith was some type of appendage of a 4th dimensional entity child. And this entity was set on wanting a human pet, but when it went to grab the early monkey human its 4th dimension mom told it "No pets!" He was too young to care for a human. So it just played around and watched the monkeys.

Sometime later the entity was playing in the dirt on the moon, and decided its been awhile and it was time to ask its 4th dimensional mom again. She promptly said no, and he started to cry. Causing that high pitched noise.

Finally, later on, near Jupiter the monolith saw this man. This time would be different, instead of asking 4D mommy, it asked its 4th dimensional father. The father said he didnt care and to clean up after the human. Out of excitement the monolith yanked him into the 4th dimension and made him a 3rd dimensional aquarium.

So ... 2001 is the start of an apocalypse film, because their is no way you can give someone a life of solitude, transform them into a super being then stuff them back into society with zero repercussions.

Thank you for sharing this. I absolutely loved that movie. Kubrick …absolute brilliance. Clark also brilliant. I have watched 2001 every two years since it came out ( I am in 2023) and each time it still thrills me but the end always mystified me….so again gratitude for sharing this!
🙏💙

I absolutely hated all of the irrelevant empty scenes with the music. It wasn't genius. It was a pompous disregard for the viewers. This whole movie could be abbreviated to half its length or less. Too artsy to be coherent. And no. I'm not a swine. And those who enjoyed it are NOT enlightened. They just want to believe they are.
