All these comments talking about how Valerica doesn't care about her own daughter and whatnot, where are y'all noticing they're rolling around as Esbern???

If you are a vampire, then questline should have continued with Serana and Valerica and ending with the fucking ideal masters as the hidden true boss and upgrading castle volkihar.

Dragonborn: "Serana, i'd like to take the Vampire Lord again"

Serana: "Did you forget we both got cured last week? See with my mom."

Dragonborn (hauls his ass to the Cairn of Souls): "Valerica, would you mind giving me the Vampire Lord power?"

Valerica: "Why did yoj came all the way here instead of asking Serana?"

D: "She's cured of vampirism."

V: "Oh, okay"

D: "Sooo.... about the Vampire Lord..."

V: "Sorry, i don't bite Khajiits. I'm allergic to them."

D: "Crap. So, could you bite Serana so she can bite and we're all done with this shit?"

V: "And throw her again under the influence of Molag Bal? Have you lost your marbles?"

D: "This is getting annoying"

V: "Listen, furball, if you aren't happy just get the f out of here and go bother one of the many vampires in Volkihar, like Vingalmo or whatever"

D: "-__-"

I dearly wish an unlockable dialogue had been included for how Valerica would react to her daughter being human again, if not in DLC than through an update of some kind added by the developers (perhaps in one of Skyrim's many re-releases?)

It could have been so beautiful and cathartic, yet tragic. I could imagine it like this, apologies for the length:

The Dragonborn & Serana travel together to Castle Volkihar one last time, using the same secret route they previously took to Valerica's lab so as to avoid the vampires still residing below. They wouldn't likely react well to one of Harkon's killers.

Not to mention, some may even be tempted to try to feed on her now that she's human. Serana has no wish to harm her former kin in spite of everything they've done and is even less interested in risking becoming infected with Vampirism again.

She expects that her mother won't take this well, but the Dragonborn is there to support her. They assumed that Valerica would still be in the Soul Cairn, but are surprised to find that she's already returned to her lab, having learned of Harkon's defeat.

She was informed by Durnehviir, whom the Dragonborn had summoned prior to aid in the Dawnguard's battle against Harkon's forces (vampires, gargoyles, skeletons, etc.) outside the castle. Thus, Valerica felt safe leaving the Soul Cairn at last.

Though her presence had not been made known to the other vampires just yet, she would take Harkon's place on the throne in due time. As the Dragonborn and Serana came closer, true to Serana's instincts, Valerica immediately senses a change.

Upon hearing Serana's heart beating (a sound she'd almost forgotten), smelling her blood and seeing her reveal her human eyes, the mother gasps in shock. Serana pleads for her to stay calm, assuring that this is no trick and that she feels fine.

She knew her mom wouldn't be happy but felt that she deserved to know regardless. Valerica's distraught, questioning what Serana was thinking and possibly considering it blasphemy against Molag Bal (whom Valerica would still be loyal to).

Serana, however, standing by her choice, would argue that this was not a path she took lightly and she understood what consequences it would bring. She acknowledges that Molag Bal may punish her in some form, in this life or the next.

Valerica, still angry, curses the Dragonborn for allowing this, accusing us and/or our vampire hunter friends the Dawnguard of forcing her into it. But Serana interrupts that this is what she wanted, and it was always her decision alone to make.

She simply didn't want to be immortal anymore, not after what it did to her family. She's lived far more than long enough as is. Now, she feels like she can truly live again for the first time and experience everything this beautiful world has to offer.

As a human, she may live free among those she once called prey rather than continue hiding in the shadows. She can travel all of Tamriel while basking in the warm sunlight, make non-undead friends, and maybe find love or raise a family of her own.

Even if it means aging and eventually dying, along with all the other caveats of mortality, she welcomes it. Seeing the sadness on her mother's face, Serana tones down the positivity in her voice and sincerely apologizes for causing her such pain.

They both know there's no way Valerica would ever cure herself as well, not even for Serana. She is a devout daughter of Coldharbour and will remain so presumably for eternity. Even so, it is agony knowing she will outlive her precious child.

Cupping Serana's face in her hands and feeling the warmth in her cheeks, Valerica shakes her head and whispers "Oh... My Serana...", shedding a single tear of dark red (almost black) blood. Serana cries human tears in return, sobbing "Mother..."

The Dragonborn stands silent, watching the two share a tight embrace for a few seconds. Valerica reluctantly concedes that, while she still disagrees with her daughter's choice and will forever be wounded by her loss, her heart will always be with her.

For her own safety (obviously) and to preserve what little (if any) remains of their honor, Serana may never return. If she's committed to this new start, then she must cut all ties to the past once and for all. Serana can only respond "... I understand."

Over their centuries of a turbulent relationship, both her parents, on their opposing paths, had put their daughter through so much. Now, having finally reconciled with her mother, it came at the cost of choosing a path that once again separated them.

Refusing to risk her grief instilling guilt in Serana, Valerica hides her still pained face by refusing to even face her. "You should leave then... now.", she says in a stern, cold tone (her voice struggling not to break). Serana leaves with these last words:

"Yes... I wish you well, mother... I love you. And I'm sorry... Goodbye." With that, she quickly turns and vacates the lab, after which Valerica whispers "No... I am sorry, my dear child... for everything." The Dragonborn then turns to catch up to Serana.

Valerica calls to us on our way out though, "You... Stay for a moment... I would speak with you." This dialogue starts with us accepting her apology for snapping at us earlier. It will simply take time for her to process this heart wrenching event.

To that end, she respectfully asks that the Dragonborn not visit her for a while (The location is locked off from manual entry or fast-travel for 72 in-game hours). Once she's taken her time to grieve, the option to visit her lab is automatically restored.

Should we desire to ask her questions, practice alchemy & enchanting, or buy & sell items relevant to her character, we are always welcome. Valerica leaves us with one request: To continue being a friend to her daughter, as we have been up to now.

Upon giving our word to do just that, Valerica thanks us and we leave to speak with Serana (The marker for this quest will direct us to find her back at Fort Dawnguard). She can be found waiting for us, standing outside the main fort's front entrance.

We ask how she's feeling, to which she admits she knew that reunion couldn't possibly end with either her or Valerica happy. But what's done is done, and Serana isn't turning back. She then reveals to us that she's planning to leave sometime soon.

She doesn't know when, nor where she'll go first, but intends to traverse all of Tamriel and perhaps even beyond. She's still a stranger to this new era and knows such a journey could take decades, but she'll make her own way at her own pace.

She'll learn to live as a mortal, discover new adventures and maybe get into a little bit of occasional trouble. And, as much as she'll always deeply miss her mom, she confesses an underlying feeling of excitement beyond anything she's felt in a long time.

The Dragonborn can optionally offer for her to live with us until she figures out her next move, but Serana protests that she'll remain at Fort Dawnguard for now. She's already made her intentions clear to everyone there, and they support her in her quest.

She reveals to us with a chuckle that even Isran seemed genuinely happy for her, which honestly struck her as a bit creepy. While the option to marry her remains unavailable, Serana thanks us for all we've done and states that we mean so much to her.

In addition to an irreplaceable friendship, we've shown her an example of a true hero, an example she vows to follow. She has a feeling this won't be our last meeting, however, and assures that we can always request her aid if necessary, wherever she is.
