Thank you so much for the education.
ОтветитьVery very informative video, thanks for details explain
ОтветитьI jsut did as you said and disliked twice, then I remembered I liked the video so I liked it as well, but only once 👍
ОтветитьWhat a perfect video🎉🎉🎉🎉 thank you so f*ckin much!
ОтветитьYou are always so helpful! Thank you for spending the time to explain things so well.
ОтветитьBro when did you grow out your hair damn 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьWow. I've watched tons of videos on just this subject and this is by far the most detailed explanation. You even answered some other questions I had and simplified this whole process for me. Now it is time for me to practice. Coming from photography trying to get into video for the ideas that have been running through my head. Thank you so much.
ОтветитьNow all new Sony cameras have 10 bit video an update to this comparison would be great to have. Is HLG3 still the best according to you or is Slog going to be more favourable?
ОтветитьI prefer hlg 2 coz of less noise than hlg 3 nd holds more details in shadows nd highlights
ОтветитьThis is absolutely incredible. Learned so much from this, thanks!
ОтветитьThank you, I was searching for an objective review and this gave me all the answers
ОтветитьThis video really helped me understand the difference between the minute details. Thanks for information!
ОтветитьAs far as I understand it, "Movie" should be used if you dont want to edit at all, right? Like just filming a family event and straight away give the movies to relatives without any editing? Or should I still use Cine2?
ОтветитьAmazing video. Thank you.
ОтветитьYou prefer HLG for 8-bit video, but even my Sony a7rV now has 10-bit, is HLG still (your) preference over S-LOG? i'm trying to speedcoarse myself to prepare for Swiss travel video capture.
ОтветитьIf it's a commercial video I choose HLG3 BT.2020. But I shoot most of my video on the standard "landscape" profile, it brings me the pleasure of shooting video. In my opinion PP kills the creative aspect a bit because you don't have to have all that detail in the dark and light areas to get a nice video.
You very accurately noticed that the exposure and white balance greatly affect the final result. For a long time I did not understand this and my footage looked disgusting, no matter which picture profile I chose.
best video for sony camera users ever
ОтветитьThank you!!! Very useful!
ОтветитьWhat setting would you suggest as a good starting point if I was shooting a live broadcast on an A7III and had to match other rec 709 broadcast cameras? Just an fyi, this is a sports broadcast where we would need to match the color, and gamma curve of the hard cameras. Thanks!
ОтветитьJust got an a7iii thank you!
ОтветитьThank you for this video. Best video about sony pp’s
ОтветитьVery very details & easy to understand
Oh, it's so much logic too.
Thank you very much <3
Can't filmsimulations be created within picture profiles like Fujifilm have there film simulations? Or like creating a Lut straight in camera?
Ответить62 years oldis me, just getting be bored by mythes of color, I met this video. thx a lot. "all logs and luts etc is zipfile." do more please about color. long live young man👏
ОтветитьWhat should the settings be for HLG 3 though, theirs a lot more that I didn't hear you cover.. i'll go through them... if anybody else can tell me what to set these to.
Black Level?
Black Gamma, Wide, Middle, Narrow?
Knee, Manual, Auto?
Saturation?
Color Phase?
Color Depth (Assuming these should all be 0?)
Detail was the only one I heard him mention should be -7.
One stop solution for picture profiles on sony camera 🔥
ОтветитьAll rounder and complete video for picture profiles on sony camera... great man ❤️
ОтветитьWe need to update on that, Gerald! Particularly with HLG3 now pretty much being used a whole lot, as well the new "S-Cinetone" gamma on newer Sony's.
Any chance we could get it? 🙏
Very helpful!!!😊
Ответитьcine2 or cine4 for low light ?
ОтветитьHow to expose on HLG3 on a Sony?
ОтветитьHi - I have a Sony NX-200 and a Canon 6D. I am looking at swapping the 6D for a Sony Mirrorless. Do you think the color profiles on the NX-200 and A7 would be able t be better matched for 2 camera shoots?
ОтветитьTwo questions for you 😄
1) How high do you go above 640 native iso before deciding it’s time to jump to 12800 dual native iso and using ND for Slog3?
2) In a scenario where you have low light but 12800 iso is sufficient to control with ND, would you still choose to shoot in Slog3 or would you switch to a different color profile like HLG that handles noise better?
You cut your hair for Killjoys?
ОтветитьYour 👏👏
ОтветитьI feel like the "still" color mode is one of the best for video on sony cameras and almost no one uses it.....
ОтветитьBro I was losing sleep over this. THANK YOU
ОтветитьCurrently on my a7R2, noticed the other day when shooting my dog that when the whole image is exposed correctly, the white fur part of my dog is washed out... realised maybe finally it's time to bother with some dynamic range compression magic, and try the color grading magic... Went with s-log2 as it's the only log option my camera has, applied all the tricks, like overexposure to the right (I'm from a still photo background, so kind of understand the concept here), apply a LUT to rec.709 at last node to have a neutral look to begin work with... At first sight, it's a wow, finally I can have a image like working with RAW, with all the highlights from the trees and faraway sky and white rooftops and the shadow details of trees on the ground all be clearly seen simultaneously... But then when I have a closer look at the footage... It's actually worse than the default... It's hard to explain it's just... rough vs. smooth...
What makes me wonder is, if dynamic range is not an issue, should I just shoot straight away without bother with any of these especially s-log??? Assume we are not after a certain look straight out of camera. In stills there are times we just "shoot to histograms", without even care about the actual exposure of the "image". Just rotate that compensate dial, make sure nothing got clipped, and everything well framed, then you are OK. In Lightroom Classic most of the time it's just a click of "auto" and problem solved. It's even a "good habit" to a extent to always under-exposure a little bit (1/3 or 2/3) because most of the cases shadows looks dark but they are there, but highlights are easily clipped when exposed auto. In the video world, do you think people are just too obsessed with log profile? In many situations if the dynamic range is not huge, and you got clipped highlights, will it just be simpler if you just apply that same expose-to-histogram method to fill the whole dynamic range with useful data, and then adjust in post??? This way because there's even less compression, in theory there should be more data to be worked with at the "useful range" compared with a log profile... What's your take here???
And thanks for making this video, in future when I need more dynamic range (notice something got clipped both way, or just highlights, to get quick result) definitely will try that cine2 or 4 profile, but still just curious about the above thinking... Looks you are also on the more "geeky" spectrum here so I just type what's in my mind.
@Gerald, do you still agree that S-log3 is harder to work with? Isn't as simple as set input colorspace & gamma to slog3/sgammut3, set output to rec709 (or P3 or BT2020 if that's what you want) in resolve color space transform? (Or use a LUT in resolve?
Of course, you have to make sure your exposure levels match the expected range of the transform (middle gray at the specified IRE).
"Hit the Dislike button twice." Nice... LOL
Ответитьfrom my extensive test, its better to add detail in camera than in post, especially for low light video. detail in post boldens the noise, but detail in camera doesnt bolden the noise. also sony websites states its better to get the video in camera close to the desired result than to leave to post, this is because all videos are compressed, but if you pick the desired results in camera, the result is applied to the signals before the video is compressed onto the sdcard. overall very good test, which shows the core of the profiles, but people must go and do the test manually in their own scenes and find what gives them the optimal result they would want.
Ответитьvery helpful. thank you brotha. been using HLG2 cuz i HLG3 color seemed a bit more contrasted/saturated, but this video broke it down more scientifically. switching now!
ОтветитьIncredible. Thanks for this! The best advice I've found on this topic. Next - how to grade! Appreciate all the effort you out into these. Will contribute financially as soon as I start making money! 😅😅 On another note - your intro is an ear worm.
ОтветитьIncredible! Thanks!
ОтветитьThis was so helpful! Thank you.
Ответитьeveryone else can really just delete there Picture Profile Videos... with this one you don´t need any other.
ОтветитьA very informative and helpful video! Thank you very much!
I have a question. Would you recommend mixing slog2 (smartphone) and hlg3 (A6400) in one film? (or better combine slog2 and cine2?)
I often use the app filmic pro on my smartphone, as well as my Sony A6400 camera.
The slog films on the smartphone are most of the times very clean and almost noise free and are easy to edit. On my A6400 the quality in Cine2 or HLG is often better than in slog (depending on the available light.). Under the same lighting conditions, the s-log2 (smartphone) is better with less noise than slog2 shot with the a6400.
thank you in advance
Great information, waiting for the A7Siii to arrive and cant wait to get started!
