My Chinese grandparents apparently used to complain about all the ''Asian kids'' in the Sheffield schools, which is pretty ironic given that they only came here in 1974, so they're actually not that well established in this country. I'm only first generation (on the Chinese side), I think the people they complained about had been in England for generations.

The humour was different in the past . people were different. Sensitive topics like racism and nationalism were taken in the correct sense and it wasn't something one had to die for. People had more 'human values' and coexisted. People have become more serious these days and their sense of humour has degraded..and people are willing to act and fight for and even die for their racist and nationalistic feelings.

My nan and grandad on my mum's side were Irish, from Dublin and Limerick, respectively. Moved to England in the 1950s. So my mum, my aunts and my uncle are "London Irish". My biological dad is from Gdansk, Poland and moved to England in the 1960s. I was born in 1992, way before the whole "Poles taking our jobs" business. I was born and raised in London and am as white as white bread. My mum and I sometimes joke that I'm a complete immigrant, since both halves of my heritage are 100% Irish on one side and 100% Polish/German on the other. Makes you think.
