In a cricket game, wouldn't it be fun to have pitchers be hit by another team player practicing their pitch as an anti-piracy measure? Just occasionally. Enough to make it annoying, but not enough to raise suspicions.

Divinity 2 Ego Draconis: pirated games couldnt use waypoints and got a few thousand skill points at a certain point in game totally ruining the experience.

The best thing about the Pirate-Coutermeasure of Game Dev Sim: Fans loved that mode for a challenge so the devs added it optionally to the base game :D

From a security aspect these aren't really "Punishments" they are delay tactics. If you place your checks further and further in to the games progression it makes it hard for crack teams to resolve quickly. Piracy with publishers is more so a race, they wanna stop zero days allowing as much time as possible for release sales (before User reviews start rolling in). Trying to outright defeat pirates is a impossible task, its really just about getting those high initial sales numbers. Even more so with a Overhyped/Marketed titles that the publisher knows are bad and banking on those initial sales make them most of their revenue. Look at spore for example absolute garbage game, so when it got zero day and people realized it was trash before the game launched it tanked the sales. So execs used piracy as a scapegoat to explain to shareholders why the game failed to produce expected profit, instead of admitting it was a bad product to start with. Genuinely good/exceptional titles don't really suffer revenue issues with piracy.

That's cute, not even Denuvo is invincible these days though. It makes sense because 99% of pirates haven't experienced these "anti-piracy" measures because the people who crack the game are actually good at what they do and remove them from the game.

Back in the 90's Ambrosia software made Escape Velocity a space freighter game. It was shareware and if you didnt buy it in 30 days the game character Captain Hector would pretty much find you and nuke your ship everytime you played.

Back in Wolfenstein 3d if you used the MIL code it would erase your high score. You could beat the game but never get a rank

back in the 90s and the early 2000s, i played a lot cracked games because i was a kid and don't have the money to buy it myself. Now as an adult and work for my money, i dont need to pirate games anymore. And: play a not cracked game is much more satifying for me.

Spyro 1 also had some nasty anti-piracy measures. The worst one was deleting your save data just at the end of the game.

If you pirate Mafia 2 the game will present as normal until you finish the Prologue set in WW2, once you return to America your health will slowly drop until you die

One time, I tried to play a cracked copy of Pokemon Heart Gold and I couldn't go five minutes without the game encountering some kind of game-breaking glitch. Either the game would turn to a black screen after I entered a building and just die, or some of the NPCs would be glitchy, corrupted messes of textures. I tried to find a legit copy, but all the ones that I WAS able to find were over 300 bucks.

I pirated SIms 4 and that never happened to any of my games. In fact, I never actually had any issues with the game and it was running just fine with no bugs.

I used to pirate games as a kid, but then i found it's basically online stealing so i stopped doing it for everything and not only video games.(Redemption, peace at last)

Make a game worth purchasing and I won't have to pirate it to make sure it's worth my money.

Alright I studied Qa game testing. And the Creator of Ready Or Not Brother had a lecture. Then I remembered I uninstalled the game, Because you would shoot garbage bags. And When you join others it would affect them to, LIke a virus basically. Yes I have a Copy of the real game in steam. But this guy litteraly said when I asked about it that i've Pirated the game, And that I should be punished or whatever in front of 20 other people. Like to not understand your own game is to shit outside of the toilet, And then complain that the seat is to small. I offered to show him since he thought I had pirated the game. But He simply refused and told me to contact suport. Like If suport knows i'm shooting garbage bags and the only thing in there mind is "This fool pirated the game" then they are going to ban me from the game via my steam id, Like fix your gaaaame. Yeah, it's hilarious to punish most of the world that makes 5 or even 6, 7 times less a month than Americans and that can't afford to spend what would proportionaly be the equialent of 400$ or more for an average American's wallet for a single video game. Anti-piracy measures only hurt a games popularity, and ultimately its sales. Seems counterintuitive, until you realize a lot of people don't want to pay $60-$80 for a game they're not sure they'll even like or even runs well (bugs/glitches etc).

In The Settlers pirate version there were pigs produced from iron ore instead of iron. :)

Car mechanic simulator 2021 had/has a troll for their pirated copy. The devs actually gave gamers the opportunity to "try before you buy" and once you've reached a certain time spent ingame. The game will go fully inverted graphically to a blue ish color. So you think and panic that your graphics card is dying but actually its just the devs trolling.

I pirated the shit out of sims4 that bitch is like £300 with all dlc, I never had that happen to me in it though haha
