When I was a kid I was more into Ben x Kevin. I did like Gwen and Kevin but nearly as much as Ben x Kevin.

Can i get a little explination, ive never seen past or before "girls should be treated like you treat a car" but to me i think of it as "with care and respect" because thats the kind of person Kevin is to his car. I just don't understand why he has so much shade thrown at him for that unless if I'm missing some detail

Kevin and Gwen had some of the best dialogue between each other expressing their adoration of each other. I know Ben 10 doesn’t have the best to offer but the small moments can sell you that they are a couple and I bought in.

I think the contrast between how the trio face Morningstar and the trio face Aggregor is a representation of Kevin's inner demons and troubles with addiction and associated psychosis. Gwevin defeat Michael Morningstar (his lesser addiction) together, but when it comes to Aggregor (his greatest addiction), Kevin destroys himself in a relapse. He then begins to shun Gwen, understanding that in this state, he can't be trusted to be near her, but still, she understands that you can't fight addiction alone, and they overcome "Ultimate Kevin" together. He completes his Hero's Journey, returning from the other world with aid from his true love.

Very normal in super hero shows that when a hero turns evil. Everyone is ready to take them down. Poorly written stories of Superman becoming bad are a good example. Batman and everyone else turn on him immediately for killing the mass murder clown in a rage after he made him kill his wife and son and cause the death of 5 million people.

You lost me with the knock against Charmcaster. OK, she kind of sucked in Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, but she's great everywhere else!

At the end of the day, it commits. There is no ridiculous relationship drama just for the drama. It hits you as real and believable and neither seem out of character because of it.

To be fair when you look at the episodes in production order and take everything into consideration, the conclusion Ben came to to kill Kevin IS justified. And even then he tries to take measures to not kill him, he just makes the wrong choices because it came to a point of every time he tried to be merciful, it backfired on him and he was losing his way. The downside was that the Aggregor and Ultimate Kevin arcs should have either been half or a full season long each rather than just a handful of episodes. Plus the studio interference, granted they did want to do a corrupted Kevin arc again earlier in the UAF run but they didn't get the chance. Sadly it just ended up being pushed back to the Season 3/Ultimate Alien era where they were trying to recapture the Classic vibe. For a good amount they did do what they could and in some spots they pulled it off with what they could do. The reason the gold poop episode even exists was basically them saying "f#@% you" to the executives when they wanted to do a more reasonable and serious story.

I'd suggest looking at Ink Tank's retrospective on the Ben 10 episodes to get a good look. And while it's not clear, you DO have to take in the whole scope of the show post-Classic to understand that the Ultimate Kevin arc DOES have reasonable basis for why Ben is saying he might have to kill Kevin.

But I will agree, that ending to the arc was just poorly handled. No residual tension, Ben cutting Gwen and Kevin's moment off with a stupid one liner. It very much felt like studio interference saying "you HAVE to put levity here so it's not too serious" which ends up feeling tacked on and shallow.

As far as what I like about Gwevin: I like that it gave us a realistic relationship of two people that genuinely love each other and do what they can to make it work despite the problems that get thrust on them. It isn't something I would have ever thought of given the amount we were given in Classic, but I'm glad and very happy it exists. Because it gives us a good yard stick to measure against Ben's sorry excuse of a love life.

I think almost every moment with these two is great, and the main flaws come from the show as a hole, not their relationship.

Gwen & Kevin do have a good relationship ruined by the fact that in the future, Kevin has a child with someone else. And the problem with that is the reason behind it. In the OS timeline Kevin met someone after escaping the Null Void which is still canon in the new OV future timeline, and that's the problem, him being a bad guy for no reason. He went from enemy to friend but is supposed to be Ben's enemy again in the future for some unexplainable reason. It would be okay if it happened when he turned into Ultimate Kevin or was retconned to being a evil again during the Rooters Arc in OV but that's not the case and we'll likely never know why he chooses to be evil again for a short time, and I say that because according to the creators the future in the OS happens on the same timeline as the OV timeline, even though it shouldn't. So Kevin 11 is supposed to turn evil and father a kid before getting tossed back into the Null Void for 10 years, escape thanks to his son's help before getting thrown back in the Null Void for the uptenth time, then reconcile with Ben 10K in about four years so he can show up to Max's retirement party.
