BK Kim was the man. Guys like him and Chan Ho Park, Hideo Nomo, etc; the game is so much better when the best from all around the world are included in the competitive pool. I can only imagine how different the record books would be had greats like The Babe and those before him had to compete against everyone!

But Kim was a legend, he was misunderstood and he himself misunderstood a lot of things when he arrived in america, often feeling confused and lost, his interpreter wasn’t that helpful, and he didn’t have many friends, when he crouched down on that mound filled with sadness, it wasn’t his selfish pity or guilt for the team, but the other pitcher friend he had that was in the bullpen, he was sad that his only close American friend would be disappointed in him. When he went back to Korea he was much happier being home.

When he first came to Arizona he didn't know a lick of English, or the signs being used for him. He would nod at everything, and then would throw the pitch he wanted haha. I remember watching a game where they had to have a meeting with him because the catcher was calling for a fastball, and he'd throw a slider. Eventually he got it dialed in, and the legend of BK Kim began. It was such a fun time to be a Diamondbacks fan in those years.
