I had this once. I asked them some questions, threw the pen on the desk, grabbed his fancier personal pin out of his holder and said “well based off what you have told me, the type of pen you’re looking for, and the purpose it needs to fulfill, this pen would actually be a better fit for you. You want a pen that’s stylish for business usage. The other pen is a great pen and would work for personal use as it is good quality and made to last and deal with most tasks. This pen is for a specific buyer who needs it to be seen. The tools you use in your job should reflect the work you do and this pen is perfect for that.”

Edit: he told me not to touch his pen, it’s special, and that I answered better than anyone he’d had.

I feel that the selling process as explained closely correlates to the process of building a social media base. If someone tells you to sell them something, don't ask them for permission to do what they already asked you to do. They already gave you permission, and asking for it again will create a sense of disconnect and lack of presence. Just my input. Keep up the good work.

Although i would ask questions by default, i dont think id be selling that pen. Cause i know nothing about it specifically. And i dont do BS.

But i do know a little something about pens in general to recommend differnt types if bleed or line weight is important. Or comfort.

So id sell A pen, but most likely not that one

UPDATE: I GOT THE JOB 🎉 I WATCHED THIS VIDEO THE MORNING BEFORE THE INTERVIEW AND GOT THE JOB.

I just think this is a really stupid question for any hiring manager to ask ... because let's just be transparent practically no one, on their first time being asked, is going to answer a question pertaining to a sale of a product that they know nothing about, well... and it will result in the person being interviewed getting chocked up over something that rlly has nothing at all to do with the job and having the entire quality of their interview go into ruins... I remember I prep'd myself for this and y'know what ended up happening? I got asked... can you sell this "pencil" for me -_-, it's just a sick curve ball of a question... like imagine, you apply for a bank and someone asks you, sell me this wig .... like Huh??? in what world does someone prep for something like that, so for god sakes hiring managers reading this, don't ask this question it's completely unsound to begin with and honestly comes off as if ur asking it in bad faith just to make a person fail shamefully for no reason. it's a BAD questions, no debate at all imo

When I was 23 and fresh out of college I walked into a Chase Bank interview in the Chase Tower in Phoenix, in a corner office on the 33rd floor overlooking downtown Phoenix and beyond. There were 10 executives around a table and I proceeded to nail my first big interview.. UNTIL they concluded by asking me to sell them something in the room. I proceeded to melt down like a 7th grader giving a speech in front of the class for the first time. And of course did not get the job.

How can a pen have a two year warranty that it won't run out of ink? If the pen gets used a lot, it will run out of ink. I had job where I had to fill out a lot of forms. I ran a pen dry every two months or so.
