People pushong Notion usually have templates for sale. Same with Goodnotes, Notability and the rest.

People that need Notion to solve their productivity problems will never be truly productive.

Great video this covers something I've always wondered about and you answered it well...

Your older videos are better. You use less cheezy ai b roll. YOU ACTUALLY ANNUNCIATE YOUR WORDS instead of the lazy slurrying sounding like you have marbles in your mouth and adding f to every word that don't contain fs. You don't have the sing song tone but just speak regularly, you don't wear that annoying hipster yellow hat and you are just natural instead of acting like a smarmy car salesman. go back to the old way.

For me Notion is big because of its databases in combination with the flexibility of page layouts. For me it has nothing to do with marketing. I discovered it because I was looking actively for something that was working for me unlike so many other tools I tried. It may not be for everyone but personally for me it was transformational too. And I have to admit just like someone earlier on the comments I also cried my happy tears, having finally found a comprehensive system, flexible enough for what I need 😂

I'm actually obsessed with Obsidian, highly recommend for anyone who wants something bare bones and can be really fun to learn! I use both, but am finding myself immersed more into Obsidian and slowly migrating to it.

I love notion because it can do anything you want, all in one spot. no more having a journal and a calendar and like 10 notebooks I never use, now it’s all together where I’ve put it

I've been using Notion for 6 months and I've tweaked my set up multiple times, and I still can't understand how I feel about it. On the one hand, I like being able to build anything and create complex databases related to each other. On the other hand, it's just not good for to-dos. I've tried using it for EVERYTHING (because it would be great if I could manage my big projects AND small to-dos in one app) and it's not as seamless as Todoist or TickTick or any task management app. I wish I could use it for everything, and I've tried, but it felt like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Though I will continue using Notion for long-term data storage.

Also, I have ADHD and every time I was in my Notion hyper-fixation phase I would spend days playing with it and not doing any tasks. Since it's so complex, it can be very distracting.

Joplin does the same thing. But that same IKEA effect is what draws some people to Linux, or, at least, what drew me to older computers.

Sooo.... Metagame = Ecosystem, just cultivate an ecosystem around your product - apple app store for example, or unity asset store - and Product Led Growth is just mimicking Adobe with how they basically ignored student piracy of their products knowing full well they would use Adobe products at the jobs they went on to get. - so old tactics, with new names to get the same results.

I stopped using notion because it is just so damn slow on mobile. They need to optimize that!

Title should be "Why notion users are obsessed with notion".

I made notes on notion and in the end it got completely disoriented and out of place. Overlapping and successive paragraphs went to somewhere else. Why it happenend and any way to make it to original format.

For most use case scenarios, ClickUp is much better and doesn't suck away that much time in setting it up :D

Band wagon effect

I used Evernote for years.. But then they wanted to charge $8 month for to do lists and more than 2 devices. Notion sitting there offering more functionality for cheaper...

I hear a lot of people saying that Obsidian is easier to get into than Notion, but I’ve found the opposite to be true. If you watch the short tutorial videos that the Notion team put out, it’s fairly easy to make a straightforward system. It won’t be complex initially, but I find Notion to be very flexible as you increase the complexity of your system.

While Notion does add some unnecessary friction to certain tasks, I think its buffet of features all in one place make it worth pressing on anyway.

That and the fact that you can make the pages very aesthetic

Weird that I got this recommendation after taking a break from typing at notion.
I'm quite agree with you, how the templates and features in notion are really helping the users to make their own workspace. However, again it depends on people too: are they truly organize and creating custom to-do list for enchancing their productive life, or just for the aesthetic and then secretly deletes it asap? Because I often ended up as the second, even for normal to-do list apps. A paper and pen is still the most effective for me.

But notion totally useful when I change the purpose: as a small wikia for my worldbuilding. I could sort of every fragment of imagination that poured on scattered papers/files/drawings into one website. All 10 years imagination that I struggle to sorting them... now can be sorted easily in a week.

Might still need to sync at other offline platform so it doesn't just got lost, if notion suddenly goes bankrupt. But at least now the basic of my worldbuilding looked better than what I did for last years.

I think that, like a growing number of infotainment videos out there, this is really just an ad in disguise.

honestly, for me it just makes it harder to be productive by planning and organising everything. the notion of, well, organising your notion keeps you in the notion of being productive. for me a sharpie and post it notes does tenfolds

I think you are selling Notion short here, I don't think it is just the IKEA effect, but the functionalities themselves that are good, the way notion combines note-taking with related databases, allowing different views of the database, allows the creation of excellent systems where the correct information emerges at the right time, I haven't seen any other to-do app as good as Notion to create a personal organizational system.
