"What Did I Miss?" from Hamilton is hilarious!
Two songs from one of my all time favorite musicals deserve a mention: "I'm only thinking of him" and "I Like Him," both from Man of La Mancha.
I think about the song from annie get your gun. the song is "Anything you can do I can do better."
ОтветитьOkay... I found one that didn't make your list but should've at least gotten an honorable mention... "He Did It" from Curtains.... if you don't know it, it's a murder/mystery/comedy musical with David Hyde Pierce! It's a lot of fun!
ОтветитьIncluding "Getting Married Today" only as an Honorable Mention is shameful! (And I know it has a gajillion fans, but must Hamilton appear in every MsMojo list about Broadway? It's starting to seem like it...)
Ответить*Franz Liebkind
ОтветитьHamilton should've been #1 jmo
ОтветитьI've always liked 'Shy' and 'Happily Ever After' from 'Once Upon a Mattress', 'Adelaide's Lament' from 'Guys and Dolls', 'Free' and 'Comedy Tonight' from 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum', among many others. All of these can get stuck in my head for days. For a change, I totally agree with your choice for Number One.
I know it's not Broadway, but I also love the song 'Prestige' from 'The Pied Piper of Hamlin' (1957), sung by Claude Rains, with Doodles Weaver and company. It's considered to be the first movie especially made for TV;
You'll be back
ОтветитьNumber 1: And I am telling you I'm not going, Jennifer Holliday.
ОтветитьAnything from Book of Mormon
ОтветитьI'd add The Countess and the Common Man from Anastasia. Caroline O'Connor and John Bolton's performance with that song is HYSTERICALLY FUNNY
also I think Come Home With Me is so fucking funny in the context of a musical that is so, so, so tragic. in my mind orpheus is autistic and eurydice just reacting to everything he says is priceless
adelaides lament. The phony New York accent with the nasal delivery??? I die very time
ОтветитьI know this is weird, but for happy broadway songs, I would pick I'm Alive from Next To Normal. It's a very lighthearted song in a sad musical, and the way Aaron Tveit from the OBC sings it is magnificent.
Ответитьyou're telling me springtime for hitler isn't 1#?
ОтветитьAll great choices, but I'd add "Real Love of My Life" from Brigadoon. Such a funny, belty number!
ОтветитьThe Butler's Song from the short-lived musical "So Long 174th Street" and sung by the inimitable George S Irving is THE ultimate funniest I've seen in 50 plus years of theater going. It will never be matched!
ОтветитьI saw Something Rotten on Broadway and thought the song "A Musical" was both funny and a nice tribute to other broadway musicals.
ОтветитьEND OF THE LINE AND WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS IS PEOPLE LIKE ME SHOULDVE BEEN ON HERE
ОтветитьHalloween from bmc slaps
ОтветитьNO CAUSE I ACTUALLY SCREAMED IN JOY WHEN DENTIST WAS ON THE LIST I'm just mad it was Steve and no Douglas considering this is about musicals
Ответитьnumber one is a cold take lol
ОтветитьMaster of the House! Turn it off! Officer Krupke! Three of my favorites.
One you didn't mention but is deserving "A Little Priest" from Sweeny Todd by Christine Baransky or Helena Bonham Carter.
Your fault from Into the woods
ОтветитьGlade 'master of the house' made it. That's the first one that came to my mind.
ОтветитьKinda wish 'Shy' from Once Upon a Mattress was given a ranking, but glad to see it at least mentioned, it's a good musical!
ОтветитьAgony- Into the Woods
Modern Major General- Pirates of Penzance
"Gay or european?" from Legaly Blonde or "Why can't the English" from My Fair Lady could be there too.
ОтветитьThis list was really not Wel made.. some of the choices per musical were not the best.. and Turn it off is mainly about hiding homosexuality, the other emotions are just fluff for the song
ОтветитьI love the entire avenue q soundtrack, but my lol go to's are "the Internet is for porn" and "everyone's a little bit racist"
ОтветитьI feel slightly offended... that "There Right There" from Legally Blonde was not on the list. That song has made me choke on my own laughter so many times
ОтветитьFrom The Producers, I would have gone with Springtime For Hitler.
ОтветитьI would add 'If I was a Lad', HMS Pinafore
ОтветитьBeetlejuice and cell block tango (though I'm not sure if that was Broadway) are great too
ОтветитьYou should feature an entire piece on the parody songs of Forbidden Broadway! 😂😂😂 They are class.
ОтветитьMake It Gay from The Producers never fails to crack me up. That's because it is so politically incorrect.
ОтветитьHere are my favorite ones, many aren’t Broadway:
Agony (into the woods)
There, right there (legally blonde)
Dentist! (Little shop)
A little priest (Sweeney Todd)
Prologue (great comet)
President Chester Thomas (the great moon hoax)
Doing this (spies are forever)
Blue (heathers-out of context)
The dynamic duet (holy musical b@man-in context)
No reason (beetlejuice)
Honestly, any song from Avenue Q or The Book of Mormon could qualify for this list.
Ответить"I Hate Men" from Kiss Me Kate is a riot.
ОтветитьPersonally I would have added “Blue” from Heathers! It NEVER ceases to get me laughing like a witch 🤣
ОтветитьI don't think "Gee, Officer Krupke" is very funny at all. Yes, it has more levity than the rest of the show. But it is still tragic. If anything, it makes you realize the full tragedy of the story and the characters.
ОтветитьThis list is so wrong it's not even funny. By far (and I mean BY FAR) the funniest songs in musical theater are from StarKid Productions. Just from Twisted alone you get 'Dream a Little Harder', 'I Steal Everything', 'Orphaned at Thirty-Three' and 'No One Remembers Achmed'. Oregon Trail also had 'Gone to Oregon', 'independence!', and 'Wagon on Fire'. There's so many you could do a top-10 list of funny songs solely from StarKid Productions' shows.
ОтветитьYesss!!! A funny thing happened on the way to the forum is the best!! My favorite though is My Bride 😂
ОтветитьMy favorite? "Dance Ten; Looks Three". "A Chorus Line"
ОтветитьSix: Haus of Holbien
ОтветитьI am the very model of a modern major general. Plus, also 1776.
ОтветитьI also love "Blue" from Heathers !
ОтветитьEveryone's a little bit racist makes me laugh. Really shouldn't but sucks to be me makes me laugh as well a long w the dentist song really really shouldn't make me laugh
ОтветитьYou didn’t talk about literally every song from beetlejucie
ОтветитьBad guys from Bugsy Malone!
