I just came across your vids as I'm a FFXIV player, watched a few so far and I'm really enjoying your commentary. I picked up guitar once and gave up quick, but your explanations seem easy enough to understand so I'm not hopelessly lost. Of course this is a fresh reaction so the analysis is pretty face value, but still you manage to point out some things I've never noticed on these tracks or some other interesting stuff. If you continue the game further you will notice how much they use leitmotifs and weave in themes from previous tracks, when the story of a particular fight is in some way connected to previous events - it's wonderful. It's also incredible to watch just how quickly you're figuring out the chords on the fly. I'll definitely be looking through the rest of your videos, cool stuff!

I think the idea to make experimental mixes of various genres or instruments can trace pretty much back to Uematsu and all the FF series and what he worked on after (like andean pan flute with guitar? Sure). It's cool Soken is continuing this kind of stuff with XIV

If I recall correctly, this part of Ruby Weapon (this song is also shared with the first half of Emerald) is a... what's the word... It's not quite a remix but maybe a reimagining of the Ultima Weapon theme? I mean, it makes sense since the trio of Weapons were based on the Ultima Weapon (which was subsequently based on the Omega Weapon).

Wrath of the Harrier would be a good one to look at, (the Diablo Armament's theme). It has a lot of really interesting guitar parts and is also one of my personal favourite songs in the OST. Highly recommended!

Love the FF14 music reaction man, ah yeah if you wanna try some cool ost from other game maybe check Rage Beneath the Mountains (Azhdaha Boss Theme - Phase 2) from Genshin Impact, it has cool traditional instrument and guitar in it

The Shadowbringers raids have some great music to take a look at. In particular I feel you'd enjoy "Landslide" (Eden's Gate Titan)), "Blinding Indigo" (Eden's Gate Leviathan), "Return to Oblivion" (Eden's Verse Shiva), and "The Extreme" (Eden's Promise Oracle of Darkness phase 2).
I'm sure you're getting buried in songs to check out but keep up the good work, love seeing you jam along with these tracks!

Not sure if it’s your kinda thing, but FFXIV has an industrial metal style of song I believe titled “The Fiend” aka Sephirot’s theme (heavy power man 5000 When Worlds Collide feel)

If you like 90s grunge rock style, check out the FF14 song, Oblivion. It's seriously that vibe.

You don't even need to wait until late in the game for good guitar songs in FFXIV. In ARR there's Steel Reason which has some sick guitar solos.

I remember showing my friend this song and he didn't get it at all :(. Your improve over the song sounds so good I absolutely love it. Another guitar song I love is "Under the Weight" (check out the lyric version). I saw it live performed by the developers of the Final Fantasy 14 and it was amazing. The composer on vocals and guitar and rap verse by lead english translator! Never skipped listening to boss music after that :)

Welp, prep yourself for the influx of ff14 players and requests, myself included! Your hands on blind break down is very unique and engaging, and your impromptu riffs are awesome. As a classical piano player it always amazes me how people comes up on the spot with improvises, and it is impressively interesting to hear it done on familiar ff14 tracks. It may interest you to check out a fellow guitarist "Husky by the Geek" who do awesome rock guitar covers of video game music (primarily with a focus on ff14). But for a none FF14 recommendation, check out "The Skies Above" by The Black Mages. Also check out FF14 "eScape" primals version, it is the original leitmotif for part of the "Long Fall".

This isn't meant as an insult, but I wish you would be more during the breaking down of the songs. I think what you're doing already is great, it's just sometimes I wonder some things about the song that you don't get as heavy into detail. Could be a personal preference though

This track is called Ultima - Primals Version. It is a version of the Ultima Weapon theme of the same name by the FF14 house band The Primals.

Just so you know, this theme is actually the composer’s in-house band’s cover of a track from XIV called Ultima, which plays during one of the final battles from A Realm Reborn

the primals version of 'rise' and oblivion are two great songs you could look at. The primals are FFXIV's dev rock band, and part of the reason the game has so much guitar in it is because the band does a lot of music for the game

That was the phase 1 track for Ruby Weapon. It also plays for the first phase for Emerald Weapon. Phase 2 for Ruby Weapon is a completely different style, orchestral vs rock

Love you breaking these down. I’d suggest the song “Who Brings Shadow” or “To The Edge.” The second video has major spoilers tho if you wanna be surprised when you get there yourself. But both are rock songs with vocals.

FFXIV has a song for everyone in almost every genre.

In fact Soken and the music team love mixing genres together to create songs you find yourself humming ALL THE TIME.

Really enjoying watching your takes on the music of FF14. You give off serious James Murphy vibes, very similar to watching him listen to riffs and improvising solo's over the top of them which is cool.
