I’m replaying this now. Great game for its time and still good today. I really wish they would have pulled the trigger on the sequel.

Honestly, in almost all video games, I just don't care about the story. Usually the story is sort of a loose ploy to allow you to play the game. But this storyline in Sleeping Dogs is so good - it was like a movie with twists and turns where I wanted to know what would happen next, and where I really felt like Wei's struggle was real. Normally I put off the "main story" of games so I can keep running around doing side quests and stumbling upon new things to do, but this is the first game where I kept pursing the main story to see what would happen next. It helped a lot that the voice acting was so good. They got an all-star cast that really sold it.

I think it is BECAUSE of the multifaceted nature of the game that makes it different from GTA. You're never just a Triad thug, or an undercover HK police officer. There is a lot of grey area that you navigate in this game -- and sometimes you end up going more to the black or white side than you might have expected. That is probably the thing that excites me most about it. I love the paradox. Plus, the game is set in fucking Hong Kong. How badass is that?

That's a legitimate concern. I don't like GTA because it is just a game where you kill people and steal cars. However, I feel like this game is going to be incredible. I really don't know why I feel this way. It might be because I can tell that the game developers really put their all and more into making this game match their expectations. Incrdbly fine-tuned combat, racing, free-run, shooting. Also, the dynamics of the undercover agent story really creates a massive potential for a good story.

yea, i like that stuff especially with the mulcher, but i'm a bit concerned that all the violence and wild stunts will just end up being the only thing that keeps you from getting bored because the rest of the game lacks an immerse experience, kind of like just cause 2 which had me bored very quickly because i never got hooked on any of the characters or the Bmovie plot. It's like the difference between watching kill bill and some michael bay movie.
