I have delved into the abyss of marathon lore, and I have learned only one thing.

They killed Bob.

Nothing has ever given me the same goosebumps as the delivery and satisfaction in his voice… “You’ll make sure of it. Aye Mak Sicur. *I’ll make sure.*”

Even just trying to process the plot of this game after the fact gave me a blue screen of death. xD

The way Durandal talks reminds me of Francis E. Dec ranting about computer god communists gangsters.

Funny how the phors supreme AI seems insane to those that work with it. You could say the same for the marathon series itself. The ramblings of a computer that seem insane to any outside observer. Great video and pretty insane end to the marathon series...for now.

So. Is the implication at the end that Cortana is Jjaro tech, the Projenitors were the Cyborg, and the Flood is the remains of the W'rkncacnter?

Marathon 1 and Infinity were designed as hardcore games, 2 was designed as a crowd pleaser. if you want more straightforward level design Halo provided that, and was much less interesting to me personally as a result.

I’m realizing how much Elsie Bray’s story in Destiny pulls so much from Marathon Infinity. She’s time traveling over and over again not only to save the world, but to make sure her sister doesn’t become evil. It’s a lot more straightforward, sure, because you’re hearing about the timelines changing rather than playing it out, but the BITTERness she must feel resetting so often is shown for sure

I would love for you to go over Destiny 1 at some point. Maybe D2 after Final Shape. Definitely all after you review the Bungie Halo games, of course. I feel like there’s a lot to go over

And you are correct, don't know if it was Kirkpatrick or someone else but I distinctly remember them saying that the design style and dark ambiance was intentional to fit the mood Marathon 1 gave.

I presume the Hindmost Creche is a reference to Niven (you know, the guy who wrote Ringworld )

In Larry Niven's Known Space universe the Puppeteers' word for leader more accurately translates to Hindmost, the opposite of a literal leader but still the one who makes all the decisions. They use that term because as a prey species that never evolved to fight their predators they see no shame in cowardice and-- reminiscent of but contrary to the Pfhor's Hindmost Creche-- regard even relatively minor bravery as a symptom of complete and total insanity.

Random thought I had after watching this. Regarding the state of being at the end. Regarding the two sides of the same coin, remembering the mentioning of quantum physics as well if the link between two minds is to enable one mind to generate thought to imagine things. While the other utilises their ability to interpret that into reality using whatever quantum manipulation comes to mind.

I just binged this series. Amazing work from Mandalore, as always.

I didn't see this posted so I thought to chime in. Near the end of the first games manual it says "You've always been a daydreamer, your mind has always filled the time between activities with imagination. Now you fall into your old habit" and ends with "Oddly this is Familiar to you, as if from and old dream, but you don't exactly remember." Awesome.

Now that I’ve had my brain scrambled by watching this series in a day, I’m really excited/ dreading the Marathon reboot because of how Bungie has been handling the release of it and mentioning how the story is going to unfold dynamically as the community continues to play through the game. Has me hyped but now I’m just trying to figure out how they’re going to fit it in with Infinity ending with apotheosis
