Whisky Review/Tasting: Lagavulin 16 years

until last year it was £49 here in the UK. It has now risen to £75. Worth every penny but of course I am not happy.

It might soind strange, but when I keep the whisky in mouth for longer time, I get some strange taste, like rubber, burnt rubber, but not like a tire, rather something like rubber band. I felt the same tasting Finlaggan.
Still one of my favourites.

interesting that you say there's no salt in it. i feel like salt must get in through the air though if it's near the sea. i have some springbank and killkerran and it is very salty. there's no way that the wood is giving it that flavor. cars that are near the ocean will rust like crazy because of the salt transported onto their metal frame through moisture in the air. something similar must be happening at these warehouses

Lagavulin 16yo or Talisker 10 yo? Personally, I find the Talisker 10yo stronger, saltier and peat, smoke and flavors pretty well integrated

I had this 2 months ago and I wonder if I had a sample from a bad bottling.. the peat was there , less smoke and hardly any fruity notes there . On the nose it was like a homeless person was in the room 😅. I liked this In the past but after my bad experience ,I wonder why this is so popular? I had the cask strength 2010 and was one of my favourite that I have had .. I wanted to try this one but for 160Euros ? (4000czk , i am in Czech ) not worth it .

Best whiskey ever created, trully the nectar of the Gods. It just brings me joy drinking it, pure calmness, joy and happiness. Every sip is like stealing few seconds of time from God and keeping them just for me.

What happened to lagavulin ... ? The bottle i bought in 2021 was less smooth than what i remembered.
It used to be my favourite , over ardbeg and laphroig. Did they change something around 16 years ago?

God! I love this whisky! For me, the best one.

My First bottle was $98 USD bought from a store in Murfreesboro Tennessee. I have just finally found my second from a store in Shelbyville TN at $138 usd. I can attest to the value. I will pay up to $200 per and then I will give in to brand betrayal. A man must try and experience this whiskey before it is lost to you. It is indeed rare that no filtered water is needed to truly enjoy such a spirit.

I have had many bottles of ardbeg and laphroaig. I’ve also had Bowmore 12, and I’m just a big fan of islay. My palet was a little burnt because of how much I had in a short span of time, but I haven’t had any at the point of writing this in over a year. With the colder weather returning, something seems right to give a go! I have a bottle being shipped to me and am counting down the day!

I was gifted a bottle recently, but im not too into the peaty whiskeys. HIs observation of the long maturation period bodes well. I don't mind a talisker 10.

I wished I liked this one as much as others but it’s way too ocean savory smoky for me.

How would you describe his type of alcoholism? Lol

It's becoming harder and harder to find it, I bought one at the Duty Free Shoo in Montenegro for 85 euros. I was lucky to find it!

The first time I tasted Lagavulin it was a life-changing moment haha.

Forever a classic. The whisky ain't bad either.

Family favourite for us as long as we have been drinking. Simply perfect and I always have a bottle around but drink on special occasions only.

I used to have this in a Hampshire pub in the New Forest years back......lovely...... smooth and satisfying.

One of the best whiskies in the world, is not necessary to waste money buying bottles of 300/400€ to find out something special!!

Lagavulin is such a nice experience and a must for anyone wanting to try Scotch - especially the smokier ones

I’ve read that after 2010 it isn’t the same. Malt’s peating level was reduced from 50ppm down to 35ppm.

I tried this last night. So good, you definitely taste sea spray, but $100/bottle here in the US

The last bottle of Lagavulin I had was not smokey - I don't know why.

I had a green tee ready for myself on the table but he talks so pationately that I went and poured some Lagavulin 16 and threw the tea in the sink.
