As for the signs being used verbally, in "Blood of the elves" (at least the original polish version) when Triss talks with Lambert about Ciri, he uses Aard on a log in a fireplace and she says that "If I made the same gesture and focused the energy it would've flown out of the chimney" and when Yennefer later in the same book is teaching Ciri in the temple of Melitele she is teaching her gestures required to do magic and one of the test she performs is for Ciri to use a telekinetic burst on a shed and she outstretches her arm, focuses and the shed falls apart and flies across the countryside (A very powerful form of Aard I think). I think it's just that sometimes saying it out loud helps you focus your mind and that is probably why sorceresses use incantations pretty much in just the more powerful spells.

Fun fact: Remember the Skellige quest "Possession" where Cerys hands you a baby to put inside an oven? Geralt sealed the oven with what looks like Quen, so Udalryk could not open it.

Sign builds are good, but nothing is more overpowered than a solid alchemy/mutagen build

Probably the igni sign heats up the metal part of the shield (in the middle, and the handle) so they cannot hold it cause it's too hot

I saw a similar explanation in a completely different anime on how this guy explain his quick magic. Basically what mages does is that they access the magic itself while us normies are unable to even have access to, or rather we are def to. This quick magic or signs to keep it simple, does have access to magic but only drops of it. But the way the signs are constructed are design to use that drop to its max capacity. My point is that Witcher signs does have some magic injected into it but as far as I know, witchers don’t use magic. But with signs they can sorta cheat their way into accessing magic without going through all that. Mage nonsense but still get its power. Much like how mages uses cannons and nuke scaling even while witchers uses pistols in comparison. And like any tech, it can be mastered into an alternate form and that pistol turns into a rifle.
So sorry for my explanation. I wanted to get my thought process out before I lose my train of thought as well as get as much of my own analysis about what signs actually are. Oh and since signs are quicker to use, and don’t have a huge wind up like most spells that mages use, tend to be favored more. But all has its place. Also I’m more than sure someone is gonna correct me or say I am wrong. I just wanna state if I didn’t, this is what I think signs are and how they function. And the resource I got is from, actually two, different anime with similar explanations and uses that are similar to Witcher signs.

Hello ! rewatching your video I can bring some precisions about the signs. In the RPG book the witcher, magic is a little more explained. Things about chaos and how people can actually channel it. Witchers can channel some little chaos thanks to their mutation. This is the reason why they can only use signs spells and some minor rituals to lift curses.

It is also said that passed a certain degree of will and incantation skill you don't need to verbalize your spell. However one of the aspects that is quite overlooked in the Witcher 3 is the possibility to fail the chaos channeling and just let it kill you. If you think of it like a dice throw, may be saying the word allow to the spell to be more reliable...

Too bad you can't use axii to get even more money on contracts. It would give Garelt a worse reputation if anyone caught on, which could given even more unique dialog consequences.

You can use AARD to shut Bruxae or Alps when they are screaming

I like using the Gryphon Set with the Blood and Stone chest armor enchantment that make the Yrden alternate shock thing drop yrden glyphs when it strikes the target in a sign build. Usually toss in some points in Igni or Aard with the build. Main downside is the "cast time" I suppose of the alternate yrden. I also want to add toward the end of the video he explained combining Shockwave with Cold Aard but in the default game that is bugged and enemies that resist the damage of the cold aard will also not take shockwave damage. I use a mod that fixes that but it also changes quite a bit of unbalanced things too.

saying a signs name probably would allow you to use it without the correct hand gesture

maybe quen only block physic attacks, but lets pass grass and rain through it (that's not a shield, the animation of raindrops could be juste the rain passing through quen because geralt is still wet)

I'm in the middle of a pure sign playthrough right now. I normally run Cat School with a focus on quick attacks and Aard (and minor Quen usage), but this time I'm going Griffin School. I've been using Yrden and Igni exclusively. It's a little slow in the beginning, but once you get the Griffin School gear, things pick up. Magic trap and Igni means I basically never use my swords. I've even started including some Axii in as well.

As someone who never really used Yrden before outside of early game wraiths, I love this sign, or I should say I love it's alternate magic trap mode. I imagine this build will only get stronger when I reach the runewright for the Entangle enchantment and get the Grandmaster Griffin gear. Even though I'm currently in a normal new game, I'm guessing this build really shines during NG+.

May I ask why is the quality of your video caps at 480p? It does however cap at 4k resolution in the beginning of the video, just becomes worse at a later chapter of the video.
