GMOD: Wendigo (Atmospheric Horror Map)

Oh hey I made this one! Thanks for playing it, and thanks to whoever ported it to Gmod.
This was made in a couple weeks for a competition and I added the water section in the last 6~ hours before deadline, my only real regret with the map :X

One thing I think should be noted is what the character is probably thinking through out this. Imagining this is some rebel with an HEV suit, theres probably a ton of dangers in the wilderness of Earth so something lurking in the shadows is completely possible. What would make it more mysterious is why they find no bodies.

That was a scary map, I loved it !

the scariest things are always vague and left up to interpretation as nothing can compare with imagination.
thats why in horror movies they do better when they show the monster as little as possible so ur left to speculate.

I was thinking about playing this map like you did but 4 minutes into this video and im already probably gonna pull out a flashlight and the tfa base.

You should try gm_ghosthunt and gm_paranormal, I played both those maps with a friend of mine and we were both so scared we couldnt complete them completely. gm_ghosthunt does require some other mods called ghosthunt and ghosthunt content

PS: a wendigo is NOT a deer creature moose-thing, it was human, is human, but its skin is white as snow, and so tight to the wendigo's body that you can see the bones, like the skin is clear. (obviously it still has guts and shit so its not a SKELETON skeleton, so it has skin) and blah blah blah sunken eyes blah blah blah mimics your family and loved ones blah blah blah cannibalism

This man does a fabulous job of making the map seem 3 times as scary as it is.

Im not watching you, I got more important stuff to do. It's totally safe to go in the woods by the way. I spend a lot of time there and nothing bad has ever happened to me. You can trust me, you don't even need a flashlight!

The map seems pretty solid but OP really takes away from the experience with his fairly feminine voice. Not bad though.

Slow Burns are my favorite types of horror! Horror is like sex, you don't want to climax with the reveal to soon. You have to tease it.

I like watching your videos, especially at night. Idk, for some reason you just have a calming voice. You’re relatively quiet, you’re not obnoxious, just makes everything more smooth and relaxing.

I feel like this would be much more enjoyable if you weren't so dramatic and overly descriptive about every single thing. It just feels weird as hell, and almost like bad or unbelievable acting.

The fact he talks like a mercenary or scientist

wendigos are people who were cannibals and so that means hat the windigo in the map is most likely the only remaining survivor of the outpost

Idk if you actually did it or not (like if you marked where to put the ads) but when you got jumped by the wendigo I got double jumpscared by an ad from crunchyroll at 100 volume

Your commentary makes this feel like I'm reading a story and its astounding

you don't see motion lights in games very often because they would be a pain to code. for games with npcs wandering around like cyberpunk or gta, the developers would have to account for when every single npc and player goes by because if they don't code in the npcs the players would complain. Or for stealth games like hitman, if only the player triggers the motion light then that wouldn't make sense and would be an annoying feature of the game.

What textures am I missing?

I have a tip for you1 next time if you play a map like this, there is an option to remove all weapons and stuff in the map menu.

I'm not sure if it was some weird Source artifact or a weird perspective thing, but after the third switch in the knee deep water hallway, I swear I saw something in the rafters(?) vanish

Release it again without your commentary. Its ruining the experience

When I saw Yakuza 0 font on the thumbnail I was really worried for Wendigo.

This video/map is the the only time when I actually felt scared or feel like paranoid and it kinda freaked me out, And good video that made me scared :) [In gmod that is]

Honestly I used the custom flashlight mod, turned the colour of the light a little bit yellower like an old flashlight and switched the light texture to "crappy flashlight" and honestly it made it more creepy only being able to see in front of you

I keep seeing people recommending mods.. just play the base game...the developers put in alot of effort to make a game for you and you guys are just playing with the mods.. that's so rude.. imagine if you made a gmae and nobody played it and only used it for mods..
