Kit Kat Commercial - Arizona Daily Sun - 1996

In 1996, I was working in the advertising department at the local daily newspaper in Flagstaff, Arizona, The Arizona Daily Sun. Late that year, we found out that the Hershey company was going to film a commercial for Kit-Kat candy bars at the newspaper offices, and that they were going to use employees in the commercial. I'd done some small local-theater acting as a kid and through high school, so I auditioned for a part, and got it!

The commercial aired through '97 and into '98. I never saw it, not once. I had a neighbor, whose daughter would often knock on the door to tell me she'd seen it, but I never did.

As the 'interwebs' grew, I'd occasionally search for it, maybe once every three or four years. Still, I never saw it. Then, in the 2nd week of March, 2014, I decided to search again, and I found it! One of the other newspaper employees who'd been in the commercial had posted it. He had posted several copies, all of which were partial, but none were complete. It mostly looked like he'd kept a tape in the VCR during the year it aired, and would grab what he could whenever it came on.

Luckily, I was able to download all four partial copies, and took the best beginning, middle, and end, editing them together to create a single cut of the commercial. (I guess that media production education almost paid off!)
