The US has never healed from the civil war and a lot of the division in the US today goes all the way back to the civil war.

The American supporters of labour should use the 13th Amendment as a basis for fighting part time, low wage earnings.

I don't believe that Abraham Lincoln was an Abolitionist, he just didn't want to see the economic and social practice of slavery spread west. Historians claim that he actually possessed some blatantly racist opinions regarding race relations, albeit they were common sentiments that most citizens during this period of Social Darwinism and Xenophobia shared, and yet also personally hated slavery but could not outright proclaim his fervent opposition towards it without risking the loss of any/all political support.

A couple things wrong with the video
1: Lee was not present at Fort Sumter (he was still a colonel in the US Army) or First Bull Run (he was acting as Jefferson Davis’ military advisor). The general present at the firing on Fort Sumter and First Bull Run was the Louisianan P.G.T Beureguard.
2: Antietam was not the only important land battle in 1862. There were battles before that such as Shiloh, Williamsburg, Seven Days Battles, and Second Bull Run. And after that, Fredericksburg.
3: At the same time Lee lost at Gettysburg, Vicksburg fell to Grant, placing the United States in control of the Mississippi River.

There was no surrender at "the" Appomattox court house. The name of the town is Appomattox Court House, Virginia. There's one in Ohio too called Washington Court House. There may be others...

You missed that Missouri was a slave state, and played a big role in the bleeding of kansas. The elected government in Missouri also sided with the confederacy at the onset but was ousted by union troops and replaced with union figureheads.

Wouldn't have many maps, but a brief history of reconstruction would help a lot of people:
the radical Republicans' attempt to give equal rights and land to former slaves; Andrew Johnson (a Southern Democrat) being chosen to foster unity before the war who succumbed to vanity and basically stopped all punishment of slave-owning traitors, restoring the slave system in all but name...

Wow, nowadays republicans are shown as villains and democrats as good guys, but I did not know back in the democrats was pro slavery, and republicans were anti slavery, no wonder republicans held office for more years than democrats in US history!

Actually the North benefited from slavery as well. They manufactured products they could sell to Europe from the cotton, sugar, and tobacco plantations in the south

Most important part was left missing, where slave states didn't just want to keel slavery but wanted to expand it to new conquered areas, and That is why they seceded

American here. I think if the 2023 right had their way we'd be right back in a civil war. I don't feel i belong in this world. I want peace, live and let live, body autonomy, less laws and government involvement, and more personal freedom - sort of a demi-anarchy. 😂 The only laws are when a person infringes another's rights (such as theft, violent crimes, etc). If it's just a channel you don't like then you watch something else, and that sort of thing. 😁 People will learn to compromise and take responsibility for themselves. But it's just a dream. It will never happen because I live in America which is full of self-entitled, spoiled, selfish, judgemental people who can't be happy just living their life, they want to shove their beliefs, morals, and values down everyone else's throat. Yep. I don't belong on this planet at this time. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Funniest thing about the fugitive slave act was that almost everyone hated it. The slave states hated it because of liability issues like what happened in 12 years a slave (which happened and actually resulted in massive court cases for illegaly enslaving someone) and the fact that they wanted the federal governments power to deminish not grow, and the anti slave states hated it for obvious reasons

The immigration issue was one of the causes of the secession crisis (the states that broke off before the invasion post fort sumpter)

A lot of tye south accused tue north of intentionally importing europeans, especially catholics, because europeans largely supported a more cebtralized power structure. This wasnt even a southern thing as copperhead states (northern democrat controlled states) also threatened secession earlier in the century over the practice, even in states where demcorats were moderately anti slavery like new york. One od the reasons was that importing voters in national elections waant really possible at the time because of election laws, but affecting local elections that had the ability to impact national focus was (uts also one of the reasons we have an electoral college now simply because ecen today we know that our border isnt as securabke as we would like barring mass executions of illegals)

This made me look up to find when the republican party became evil

"The Democratic and Republican parties have swapped their viewpoints on a number of issues over the years. The most significant shift occurred in the 1960s, when the Democratic Party became the party of civil rights and the Republican Party became the party of opposition to civil rights. This shift was largely due to the Southern Strategy, a political strategy adopted by the Republican Party in the 1960s to appeal to white voters in the South who were opposed to civil rights. The Southern Strategy was successful, and it helped to transform the Republican Party into the party of conservatism.

In addition to the issue of civil rights, the Democratic and Republican parties have also swapped their viewpoints on a number of other issues, including economic policy, social welfare, and foreign policy. The Democratic Party has become the party of big government and social liberalism, while the Republican Party has become the party of small government and social conservatism.

The shift in the viewpoints of the Democratic and Republican parties has been a gradual process, and it is still ongoing. However, the two parties are now very different from what they were a few decades ago. The Democratic Party is now the party of the left, while the Republican Party is now the party of the right."

"... the Thirteenth Amendment, which abolished slavery throughout the united states."

Except! Yes, fucked up, there's an exception!

"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

So technically, slavery still exists in the USA. Because people who've committed crimes... don't deserve rights, I guess? I'm not actually sure what the rationale is.

There were a lot of reasons why the civil war started. The issue of slavery was just the straw that broke the camels back. Thanks to revisionist historians it only became about slavery which is a lie

Brittan outlawed the slave trade in 1807, and owning slaves was made illegal throughout the empire in 1838. Let that sink in the next time somebody tells you the US was formed for "freedom from an oppressive government" because they charged 1/4 cent tax on the price of tea.

We're actually still split on Federal versus State, but that's by design.

It's not about slavery anymore, more about what exactly should a state do versus what should the nation be able to do. The federal government wins most of those fights, but some of the best results often come from rulings that allow Iowa to be Iowa (y though?) California to be California, and Wisconsin to continue to wish they were Minnesota.
