Hickory longbow (self bow)
A board bow from the hardware store, look for straight grain that runs the length of the board, no knots or damage.
Only hardwoods: Hickory, oak, or maple in that order. It is usually the only woods available at the big box hardware stores.
Figure out how long of a bow you want usually 6 to 7 feet, and go alittle extra to trim off any bad spots.
You can back your bow with fiberglass, silk, sinew, or rawhide. I used fiberglass tape on an oak bow, but this hickory I left just wood. You can even use bamboo.
I cut the rough shape of the bow out on a bandsaw, but you can use a draw knife and wood rasps if you don’t have access to power tools. Also paracord works well for a bowstring when you first make the bow, and you can either make a string later or buy one. There are several tutorials on youtube on how to make a bowstring
