He had some of the most beautiful handwriting I ever
seen.

The age old question...why was it so big?

Couple things, not really sure why he signed his signature so large is “debated”, he was the president of the continental congress during its ratification so it only makes sense. Also the fact that Hancock apparently wanted to stay behind to face the British regulars makes complete sense when you know that he was the commander of the First Corps of Cadets which were the bodyguard to the governor of Massachusetts. He only left that position after a conflict with governor Gage.
