## Insert security measures here - Deepin codebase, probably. The S in Deepin stands for security lol.

OpenSuse is nice 2 weeks at a time, but they make sudden changes to the desktop. I was trying them about a year ago. Everything was good and then suddenly the update completely dropped the desktop and installed another, poorly configured. Everything broke of course. After that I became skittish about rolling releases. Run them in a virtual machine all you like but don't let them run your desktop. If you must have Suse then pay for enterprise. Expect to reinstall every few months. Expect audio problems other configuration problems and time spent in bash working with rpm databases.

Formatting my drive(s) without root level access? NO!
From what I understand between the lines, the OpenSUSE's team have given up on this. They probably don't expect any fix, anytime soon, that's why they made the decision. And nobody can blame them, they did what they should - keeping their distro users secure and informed. And keeping bad code out of the way.

OBS had same issue with fedora refusing their official package due to using out dated and Fedora rejected UN-patched lib version of back end software... I think the issue here is just as innocent but Deepin runs on a Chinese version of the kernel that has different Root permissions, I think that courses issue for them as thing that work on the kernel they use work but on a western kernel they looked for ways to get it to do the same but it broken SUSE rules. But I wouldn't use it, maybe a western fork of it could be and Idea. I personally never got it to install on more trusted Distro's and why I was surprised the SUSE tried offering it. But that was back when desktop hopping a lot because I settled on learning one and mastering Gnome ins and out to make it work for me.

it's not just Chinesium (although this is pretty egregious), the focus on new features over sound fundamentals and security is distressingly widespread in software, open source and otherwise

Never trust the CCP and they want to control everthing everywhere! OpenSuSe was crazy to use Chinese code. There product was so great when I first discovered them in around 2000, so now that I am retired, I came back to look at them on 10/11 May 2025, to find both Leap and Tumbleweed appear to be crap! Please let me know when (the Date) they have replaced it and with what. I am currently learning Linux Mint with Cinnamon and KDE Plasma instead!

Cinnamon is the best. Plasma 6.x is also nice (Baloo is not so resource-greedy there). Gnome is a very stable base for Cosmic and Zorin. Are they not enough? Do we really need a great number of trashy desktops? For example, I look at XFCE in Debian 12 and honestly cannot comprehend why it's impossible to disable the touchpad while typing. In 2025. What a shame. Do we need such a crap? Isn't it better to use good products only?

Every Linux-system is multi-user, like the print-user, network-user...all just users on Linux, software-technically. Those work the same thing as human users, same system for an 'account', privilleges, groups...

Hmm so we in West care if China is spying on us, but not your local government, who, you know can actually f you up... I found out this personally the hard way if say you have the incorrect opinions.

Also, Opensuse is a openly racist organisation so don't really care what they think.

If you're that concerned about your privacy and security, first get rid of your phones.

Not saying I support Chinese spying, but let's remember what's the bigger threat

Speaking as a Mageia packager: my take is that the Deepin developers Do Not Care about security. That is what it sounds like.

Yes, the OpenSuSE packagers should have caught this. On the other hand, at some point you need to trust your fellow packagers.
The upside is that once the OpenSuSE packagers discovered this, they took swift action to remedy this.

You have a lot of opinions for an end user with no technical knowledge.

Malicious intent should never be your go-to, especially when it is clear you have a bias.

There is a mismatch between the Linux distro Deepin was designed for and the rest of the distros. A fork would be a good idea because Deepin is quite nice.

You can tell a lot about the quality of a channel by the quality, or lack thereof, of its commenters. Switched to Linux is on ignore.
