Worth saying that Mountain Rescue are accessed via the Police from a 999 call.
ОтветитьIs there any dangerous animals in the uk that I should be aware of? If yes, how do I prevent them?
ОтветитьPlease straighten the picture behind you. :p
ОтветитьGreat advice.
Personally I think a persons gear should be calculated as an extra person. So a tent rated for two souls, really means one person and one persons gear.
Now personally I love the IDEA of hammock and tarp camping, but you have to roll with the reality of where you are camping. Im in Scotland which means midges, mosquitos and year around random rain. You really need a comfortable tent because you might have to use it as a refuge and spend time in there doing your admin because leaving might mean jungle levels of biting insects.
Wise words on sleeping systems....
Having been caught out a few times, I now take a heavy duty foam mat (bulky but light as a feather), but I also take a couple of space blankets. They are chronically bad for catching moisture, but if you get caught out and the night turns very cold, a space blanket will help you get through the worst hours of the night, even if its just loosely placed over your legs and midriff.
Seems like a lot of expense and hassle to me. I'd prefer to stay at home and watch videos of the location I enjoy.
ОтветитьGuys can someone help about my concern for foxes. Is this a legitimate concern when wild camping in the UK?
Ответитьfor doing a shit do you jus dig a hole and then shit in it wipe your ass with toilet paper and then bury it?
ОтветитьExcellent video. Just on the temperature drop, there is two degrees par thousand feet climb so bear that in mind when in the hills.
ОтветитьAmazing video
Ответитьi live in uk full time in tent, my who,e gear is from mountain warehouse and it cost 400£ , i work 3 nights in tesco to fund my life, im familly friend less human.
ОтветитьThanks for this - without a fire i just dont enjoy camping, and i do know how to make safe fires (even on peat) assuming appropriate local stones, fuel & water can be found.
But a: i dont know how to do that and leave no trace, and b: i wouldnt want to attract attention and trouble and spoil it for the real wild campers.
In short, i dont like it, but at least i have my answer: no wild camping for me, ill just have to stick to the equally hard challenge of finding camp sites that allow campfires and somehow arent super popular.
Agree re pandemic: the site we use is now overrun with noisy groups that discovered it looking for any kind of escape that year. Brexit & cost of living havent helped either as cheap package holidays arent what they were so its gone from what might have been a one off novelty for some folk to being repeatedly their only option for a "holiday". Its obvious that theres people there whod rather be on the party strip in benidorm. And fair play to them if thats what they like. But its fair ruined my chill.
i hesistate between buying a Msr tent and an naturehike tent. Even if the msr tent is offered for 300€ less than the regular price, it is still 3 times more expensive than a naturehike tent. Is it true that naturehike tents come out of the same factory as msr tents?
Ответитьgreat video, I hadn't had an interest in wild camping before. but I'm already hooked haha
ОтветитьI am traveling from the USA and hope that in future vids you will touch on tent type recommendations for the UK as well as gear recommendations for international travelers. Thank you for your channel
ОтветитьIn Canada, where I camp mostly in boreal forest, hammock is my preferred choice. As an older guy (pushing 60) I sleep better off the ground. It also avoids the search for a flat, clear spot. I sometimes use a tent when conditions call for it, but my hammock sleep system weighs only 6 oz more than my tent and sleep system. As a canoeist, the weight is negligible and comfort takes priority. Nice to see your perspectives from England given your different environment. Cheers.
ОтветитьWe are not allowed to wild camp in Dartmoor now are we?
Ответитьvery helpful 👍
ОтветитьGood points dont forget you can ask the land owner, farmer if you can pitch a tent on his land.
Dont take to much gear you have to cary it and extra 1lb or 2 is okay. We are not in the marines thesedays. Its just getting away for a few days.
You can get food and essentials locally, consumables.
This is a great video! Personally I plan to camp on the Mediterranean coasts where the climate and flora is drastically different from UK. But even then, this video gave me a great heads up on how I should take my first steps. Full of amazing tips. Thank you!
ОтветитьThe only issue i seem to have is over night parking and where to leave my car for multiple days any tips? 😂
ОтветитьYa picture is wonky
ОтветитьMate, you can't talk about reducing the weight of your food a second or two after the video clip of you drinking a bottle of Stella 🤣🤣🤣
ОтветитьYay for tips
ОтветитьThis is probably an informative video but quite frankly the audio is abysmal.
ОтветитьThe one thing that annoys me from other wild campers is the ones who "enjoy the thrill of breaking the rules" these are the one who are spoiling it for the rest of us.
ОтветитьGreat video. New Sub. TIP #4 SHOULD BE TIP #1.
ОтветитьAs we are only 6 weeks away from hiking The west Highland way and wild camping as well as a night or 2 on a camp site this video is extremely useful. Got some great tips and will definitely make our journey a better experience. Thanks 😊

John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Jesus
I enjoyed this video but I think it's worth clarifying that it is NOT illegal to wild camp in England and Wales. You are not breaking any law. If you're asked to leave by the landowner or their representative (eg fishing bailiff), and you refuse to move, then you might be in breach of the law. So, move when asked to, but otherwise, in legal terms, you're doing nothing wrong
ОтветитьHot tip: take a hot water bottle with you. Warmth all night long with minimal weight and space.
ОтветитьCome-on up to and thru hike the STH in Minnesota. I'll go with ya if you like. I've done it a couple times. 255 not easy miles. Let's go! You can help me out when I'm living in Scotland to know what's what if you'd like, but it'd make a good video series maybe idk ¯\_ʘ‿ʘ_/¯
ОтветитьI'm going to the Lakes to do some fishing when it warms up. April time, say.
This video cleared a lot of things up for me, nice one for making it.
Great tips
ОтветитьSome great advice thanks. New to ultralight camping. Lots to learn
ОтветитьCarry biodegradable nappy sacks in which to put used toilet paper and / or biodegradable wipes. They can be buried alongside the poop or carried away in a ziplock bag if preferred.
ОтветитьI won't compromise on coffee. Beans, aeropress and hand grinder or forget it!
ОтветитьVery useful and informative for novice wild camper as me! Cheers from the Netherlands
ОтветитьWhat are the wild camping rules in Wales?
ОтветитьFantastic! I wish I could join you to one of the camping tours!!!
ОтветитьA useful video for someone like myself who is considering their first wild camp and what gear to buy.
One question...for camping in the Lake District, what exactly is meant by "above the highest fell wall"?
Regarding Scotland.
They have Right-to-Roam laws so wild camping is pretty much fine anywhere as long as you dont do something egregious like camp in farmers field during lambing season. As a general rule, if its wild land, there is nobody about, and its in the middle of nowhere you, if you are responsible and polite, you will have no issues. Just remember that the "remote" campsite near that carpark might be the local weed smoking spot or place boy racers go to cop off. (remote is a relative term)
A notable exception is Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park
Because of its proximity to Glasgow they have huge issues with townies coming up with disposable BBQs and no respect, so they had to enforce restrictions.
Essentially you can still wild camp and do all that good stuff BUT between 28th February and 1st October you need to book and purchase a wild camping permit for £4, and only wild camp on the designated plots. You also cant have open fires during any kind of fire-prohibition warning. Out of season its too cold for drunk BBQ idiots so you are free to wild camp and do what you like as long as you adhere to the usual set of very sensible guidelines. Essentially, its still a wild camping zone all year round, only with booking and restrictions March through September.
As is always a good practise, research any Scottish area or National Park before your trip. On one hand there may be date specific rules, those dates might change, as will some local prescriptions. For examples in the same park having an open fire might be a finable offence if there is a fire warning, ill advised during the late summer, and absolutely fine during winter. Similarly there may be handy amenities you are unaware of, so a little research is always worth it.
Essentially Scotland tries to maintain and preserve the principles of right-to-roam and wild camping, whilst stopping townies from burning down the national parks and latrining in sites of special scientific interest. Its an excellent system (And Im English so this is unbiased)
As is always true... its worth noting that being respectful, responsible, polite and compliant can usually get you a good result in a tight spot or if you did something wrong. Thus far all my trips have been incredibly pleasant. (apart from the midges)
Six minutes in and I already think you are full of good tips.
Recently taken up camping again after years, and found myself repeating the old mistakes like over-packing. Having nice kit means there is a real temptation to take it... but I need to real that in. Thank you.
Really appreciate the time and effort 🙏
ОтветитьThank you so much hoping to get on my first trip next few weeks
ОтветитьI was looking at the Peak district, but overnight parking seems to be almost impossible to find in the area
ОтветитьFantastic video that answers many of the questions I had. Thanks. P.S. please straighten the photo frame :P
Ответитьthanks for this video , lots of great hints and tips , im going to start wild camping next year with my son and just researching everything now , thanks again
ОтветитьFantastic info, Thanks mate!
ОтветитьIf thousands of people uploading videos showing they have to "stealth camp" is not a sign of an oppressive shit country run by tyrants i dont know what is.
