For the first time in the Republic of Moldova, during the summer of 2012, the grand opening of the International Sport Coaches' School took place. Gospel proclamation and discipleship via sports and the inductive Bible study method are the main goals of the school and the reason that pastor Vasile Filat founded this school. Mr. Filat is a 5th degree Black belt in Taekwon-Do.
This year the International Sport Coaches' School had 32 students from 12 different countries in its inaugural graduating class. Over a 2 month period the went from beginners to green belts. These students were trianed by some of the best martial artists in the world; national, international, and world champions from the Taekwon-Do club "Stolas Leukas" of the Republic of Moldova.
Along with intensive sport's training, this school also greatly emphasises each student's spiritual life. During this same 2 month period, the students intensively studied different Biblical subjects based on the inductive study method. Not only did they learn to study the Bible but they also learned to teach the Bible in an interesting manner to their future Taekwon-Do groups. They will start these groups upon returning to their countries. The students also studied daily English lessons so that they can be more effective on the mission field.
This training program also gave the students the opportunity to study the theory of mission work through sports and were also given practical assignments to carry out in order to apply that theory. They divided up into small groups and then walked to the surrounding villages, some 15 to 30 km away, having to share the Gospel with the people that they met on the way. They were to share the Gospel with the people of the village, door to door and pray that some one would give them shelter for the night. Over a one week period, the students planned and organized 5 different day camps for children to evangelize the children via Bible study. Over a one week period, the students were able to share the Gospel with over 1,500 children through the days camps. Of the 1,500 children, 130 entered the New Covenant by accepting Christ as Lord.
During the first month home, the students started Taekwon-Do and Bible study groups in their countries. This begins the process of making disciples of Jesus Christ via sports and Bible study combined.
The International Sport Coaches' School is based on a 3 year program of 2 month intervals every summers. The 2 month period begins on the 25 of June and ends on the 25 of August. During the summer of 2013 and additional section for soccer will be added to the program.
