Sad story, but why would he stop, if crew couldn't see anything? They couldn't see him before the dune or in the jump or after. How stupid you must be to lie down right in the road, right behind a dune, under an oncoming truck? How stupid must everyone arround be if they hadn't alerted the guy who lay down right in the ruts in the sand right behind the dune? Maybe they didn't notice him? Okay, so could the truck crew notice him when no one else did? How stupid does one have to be to not understand the obvious?

The onboards show the spectator was hidden out of sight below the dune crest. There was no way Loprais could have seen him or even felt the impact. Very sad for everyone, but not Loprais fault.

The spectator (69 years old) died of a heart attack while being transported to the hospital.

It was impossible to see that there was a man in the dunes. It seems that the man was hidden in the dunes. I am terribly sorry for this tragedy. But Loprais had no fault.

I know that your interest is to obtain views, subscribers and reach the reproduction hours to monetize your channel. But please have some SENSITIVITY. The man has already passed away, have a little empathy and respect. This is not a tabloid platform where you profit from someone else's pain. The family is having a hard time and so is the crew.

So the driver is in trouble because they didn't stop, but how on earth could they have seen that spectator? They would have had absolutely no idea they had hit someone.

It is only right the driver retired, even for his own mental health. Fair enough the spectator should not have been standing behind the dune on the race line but he was. Imagine that was your child who died and they told you the driver is racing on and you have to wait another week till the investigation starts as we don't want to screw up his race.

IMO the driver is right to pull out and Dakar should give the driver a free entry for next year.

it would be best to include onboard footage, it showes he couldnt see him, and they probably tought the shake of the car was some rock they also didnt saw. Its unfortunate, he could have won

Sorry to hear about spectator death but he is to blame for his own mistake which costed him his life. Motorsport is very dangerous and spectators must be kept away from roadsides to avoid getting hit and killed by high flying cars.

Thats the world today. The blame goes to the wrong person. If i cross the street without taking a good look and get hit by a car. Even it happens on the freeway. It's not my fault. It's the fault of the law makers, or the driver who should expect every stupid decission that People perhaps can make. Stupid decission of the guy makes the real victims his family and the dakar driver.

Definitely a tragic accident this spectator got a little too close to the track😢 I don’t think there’s any way the truck driver could’ve seen what happened The truck is so high and big, and as a racer you’re looking at the train further down the track. A gentleman who wanted to take a picture of Loprais from below died of a heart attack while being taken to the hospital. The wheel from Loprais's car didn't kill him. Adrenaline killed him in old age.😢
