Something needs to be done about this. All the roads in Michigan should be re-done correctly. We need good leaders. But everyone wants money and is purely focused on that. I’m ashamed in what the state of Michigan government has become.

The Base underneath Michigan roads has been a issue for a long time but people also have to remember areas like I-75 in Monroe is also a swampy area it makes the roads more subject to disrepair the other thing that needs to be remembered in the state of Michigan they are a lot of areas where the construction has been completed in the northern part of the state where the roads are in much better condition there's also areas on I-94 in the western part of the state that's come a long ways but that does not factor in your basic surface streets

Only place with good roads is Oakland county

you cant fix the roads because there is too much money being embezzled by persons of interest, road construction is a lucrative cash cow for insiders and factor in the corruption at the government level..... if i wanted to undermine the road system in a country and turn it into a cash cow i would cut cracks in the road surface and get as much water into the road foundation as i could, and then blame it on freeze and thaw cycles

Yea i seen road crews take almost a year to fix a section of road. Some days no one working it even though it a nice day. It the union wirh stupid rules when they can work

Michigan allows 2x the commercial motor vehicle weight then other states and that causes major damage to roads. Until you get the corrupt lobbying of politicians by the trucking companies out of the mix it will not change.

I don't know about being a custom builder near the Ohio border, but further north in Michigan, Battle Creek, the highways and roads are becoming markedly better. Much better.

Ohio counties also don't take care of some roads. We have a lot of roads with problems. The infrastructure bill should have been called the climate change bill, cause we haven't seen the money yet. We have main bridges falling apart. I75 bridge going into Kentucky is always being patched. Oh and gasoline and some gas with oil in the engine leaking will cause asphalt to fall apart quick.

Michigan residents, get ready to pay higher taxes for the same results.

I’ll tell you this, asphalt is not better in anyway shape or form. It doesn’t even last a year. It’s easily penetrated compared to concrete. In the winter when the ice and snow melts, the water goes into the asphalt, the next freezing day it solidifies back into ice which causes the asphalt to bulge and when you have vehicles driving over those bulges , its causes potholes in the road. Then MDOT dispatches a crew to pack the holes that’ll temporarily fix the potholes.

Secondly, the primary causes for the roads being bad is the semi trucks driving on the roads during the frost law season. Unless something is done about that, we are not going to see an improvement.

Third, idk if any of you know this but asphalt is made of Bitumen. Which is produce through a distillation of crude oil. Have you all ever seen how shiny the asphalt on the freeway is on hot days ? That’s because the oil is coming to the surface. It can be 90 degrees out but the ground is damn near 150 degrees. Now idk about you, but when the oil comes to the surface, I have noticed that my car tends to slide when driving on asphalt. So again, asphalt is not the answer. It’s more of an issue with preventing the ice from penetrating the the ground when it melts and causing disruption on the freezing day.

We need to start making these states pay for our repairs on our cars and trucks

The next issue is that the state contracts out the work. Which means that these companies will do a shitty material to save money and ensure they get the job to repair the road again. Ensured work. Keep getting called back to do the work.
