Even if Stanky himself had prejudice against African Americans, he still stood up for his teammate and came to his defense, and even held no ill will when Robinson took over as Second Baseman. He, like Reese, felt if Robinson was good enough to take his job from him, he deserved it.

Discriminatory beliefs aside, Stanky was a genuinely good guy who always had his teams back.

Enos Slaughter have always claimed he never spiked Jackie Robinson on purpose and that Robinson was in his way. Slaughter never denied his bigotry in his early years, claiming he soften his bigotry in his later years when he was doing the interviews in the 90s. There are many supporters suggested that Slaughter have always hustled down the first base line and might have injured 1st basemen with his style of aggressive running, not just Jackie Robinson (which he did tried to organized his teammates in boycotting games vs Dodgers). Pete Rose in fact copied his style of running towards 1st base and have injured a few 1st baseman with unintentional spiking.
