IF the eco freaks get their way to ban all fossil fuels, this place will be gone as it relies on diesel fuel. Can you imagine that ?????
ОтветитьI'm envious, brother. I've wanted to to be able to go down there.
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьWheres the Bar?
ОтветитьAre there any Pets on this far south continent camp furry cat or dog? How about a bird.... Just a crazy thought about real connections over virtual. really enjoyed this tour, Thank you
ОтветитьI'm Moslem... can't imagine if i live here in ramadhan
ОтветитьHow do you get a job or start a career in a field like this ? How did you end up doing what you do ? A dream of mine, this is beautiful
ОтветитьThank you!
ОтветитьNot saying that you are using long arms, but I feel like that’s long arms and using long arms is bananle.
Sorry my spelling sucks
There is an insane variety of equipment to maintain
ОтветитьMan this fish eye lens annoying AF
ОтветитьHow does Antarctica generate power when there’s no sun night
Ответитьhow do you get a job down there? other than scientists there must be regular support staff to maintain things
Ответитьso this is how a lunar base or martian base should be constructed, except you will need airtight houses to breathe
Ответитьwhere's the building that caught on fire when the Alian creature attacked Kurt Russel? 😂
the GREATEST movie ever made. 👍😁
Here because I just watched Santa visit here on an online Santa tracker 😂
Ответить1000 people an no pubs? The 1500 people in Longyearbyen, which is further north than this is south, has around 7-10, LOL!
ОтветитьIt's a complete city, in my opinion.
ОтветитьMade 9 trips (summer support) to MacTown in '70s and 80s when the Navy did support. I worked in bldg 155 electronics maintenance, first floor, mainly did PMEL and electronics test equip repair, some 2-way vehicle radio repair, and a little HF transmitter site work up on transmitter hill, first tour. Suspect you have cell phone towers there now. I was there the tragic year the NZ airline crashed into Mt. E, terrible, sad year that one was. Then later on my 2nd tour ran the electronics maintenance section, left in '83 to greener pastures... Boy it sure has changed, it is way bigger now. Probably don't have the HF transmitter site anymore with the big conical monopoles, and horizontal wire antennas strung on the towers. We had first installation of tv studio and translators around the station. Short wave radio on the 7 megger. We did the first experimental satellite communications with UHF manpack to ATS satellites... Did the first vhf repeater/hf radio link to Pole... It is the experience of a lifetime... Phone patches on hf radio were the order of the day. Thanks for the tour...
ОтветитьWatch out for the Thing, I heard it is still lurking about around that station.
ОтветитьThank you sir for this useful vedieo making, take care....a.v.pillai from chennai
ОтветитьBe careful of The Thing down there. You will not survive.
ОтветитьWho's the thing and who's still human 😮
ОтветитьI was there for 4 seasons. I would close it down. Save the money. Its become a tool.of leftest progressive political activists. Close it down.
Ответить'this next building is JSOC'
HUH
'or, the Joint Space Operations Center'
...Oh.
Looks like one big junk yard.
ОтветитьI wonder what the new treaties going to bring in 23 years when the old Antarctic treaty ends I see a future of a lot of mining down there because nobody lives there It's going to be a Mecca for mining for sure.
ОтветитьWhat an ugly dump of a place, a true blight on the landscape.
ОтветитьThank you for the tour! I was there astral summer 2011 and it was great to see the station again. Brought back some great memories. Cheers!
ОтветитьAre tourists allowed to visit and stay at the station?
ОтветитьSuperb!
ОтветитьBut duuuh wheres the wall
ОтветитьThis looks sick!
ОтветитьVery nice thank you.i am happy to find your videos.
The only thing that didnt surprised me in your video is the use of land cruisers
i had no idea the research facilities down there acted essentially like small towns. now antarctica only needs a few mcdonald's, a few taco bell's and doordash delivery and it'll be set
ОтветитьWhy so many individual buildings? Especially accommodating. Wouldn’t it be easier to heat one larger building than all those small ones?
ОтветитьSo cool thanks for sharing :) I love the cafeteria style food set ups some types of jobs require /offer. It reminds me not of gross school food but of the delicious cafeteria style restaurants that can be found in the Midwest. I also love the butter penguin!
Ответитьwow, it looks amazing, i would really like to visit antarctica one day
ОтветитьI've heard the flamethrowers are kept in the fire department building.
Does the fire chief make the call to break them out during an emergency?
i didn't even know that antarctica was habited by anybody 😭😭😭😭
ОтветитьWho handles security and/or law enforcement at McMurdo??
ОтветитьWow.. that was an exceptional view of Mac Town, a trip down memory lane for me . The first season was 1979, the year of the Air NZ DC 10 accident. I was last at McMurdo Station in 1987, and had five summer seasons, four of them from Winfly (late August) working as a civilian for the United States Navy. The layout is still the same but with far less Jamesway Buildings. Would love to return there.... maybe in another life. A part of my life that was very special with some lifelong friendships both in NZ and other parts of the World . During my time there I managed to wangle a trip the Dry Valleys by Helicopter for half a day, and also a flight from McMurdo to South Pole Station on a turnaround flight (20 to 30 minutes on the ground /ice) whilst the C130 Hercules offloaded cargo, and then backloaded retrograde. Six to eight hours flying time return was well worth it. Thankyou Matty for the tour, from this Ole Antarctic Veteran
ОтветитьThanks for sharing your life in Antarctica. I bet it would be pretty interesting since not a lot of people know that there is population in Antarctica!
ОтветитьIs it me or is that a Pyramid in the background
Ответитьit still more fun than my hometown...
ОтветитьAre you allowed to swap rooms if you don't get on with your room mate? Also do they have a lock up if ever there are fights etc?
Ответить
