This is an informative video and will help me succeed in making my terrarium full of succulents.

HOWEVER activated charcoal has nothing to do with opening up "tiny pores between the atoms of charcoal." That would mean that the pores in activated charcoal are sub-atomic in scale -- at the level of protons, neutrons, electrons and the many flavors of other sub-atomic particles.

So I'm starting a terrarium soon with lithops. I'm using black, fine pumice to bring out the colors in them. I'm definitely adding a layer of horticultural charcoal, but because I'm going with all black medium I don't really want to use pea gravel on the bottom. Would it be okay to do a 1/2 inch layer of the pumice first, then a layer of the charcoal, then my planting layer of the pumice? Or should I really get a 3rd black larger pumice for the drainage layer? I didn't want to spend anymore money but will if you think the fine pumice would be ineffective/detrimental as a drainage layer. Thx!!
