Your comments are completely out of base. If you are a budget traveler the first three is not going to be the choice. Geylang is the most vibrant area where Singapore history is made. Esp my ancestor of Peranakan.

Chinatown is fine but the other 2 is nah, unless you have unlimited budget then is fine.

I recomend other than chinatown, you can check bencoolen and clarke quay area, still in the heart of singapore and nearby marina bay but have more reasonable rates.. you can also check jalan besar or bugis area for more budget traveler.

I watched the video and must admit this is from a first world perspective. I’m an Asian American that has lived and worked Singapore and well travelled. Singapore is one of the most safest places that I’ve been. No place is perfect but to say and list ‘worst neighborhoods’ is off putting. They are ‘poor’ but the government tries best to provide with housing as HDBs. Your comment about the garbage littering the community is ridiculous. I live in New York City and the standards of cleanliness is up there as countries like Japan. Singapore is city state that’s is melding of many cultures, for tourists to experience. Rich and poor like everyone places in this world.

That was 5 minutes of my life I won't get back. Nanyang is just the school, nothing else is really there. Marina Bay is just MBS. There are no riots in Singapore except when McDonald's or some other fast food place has a Hello Kitty promotion. Every HDB estate has regular cleaning and maintenance daily/weekly. Sentosa, Orchard Road and Holland Village are the areas that you want to stay. Most of the video looks like it was copied from other people in my opinion.

Geylang is pretty cool, never encountered any difficult situation whatsoever

Absolutely nothing wrong with Geylang. Yes, it's the official red light district but it's not overt and in your face. Perfect for budget travellers who are looking for cheap, clean, secure accommodation with easy public transport links (EW line, Circle Line, buses). Lots of great food options too (Old Airport Road Hawkers, Haig Road Hawkers, Geylang Serai Market plus some well known, highly rated historic food vendors). I've stayed as a solo female and with female friends and with my Mum. We've never felt unsafe - even heading out at 3am to grab some cold drinks from a nearby convenience store after a late night / early morning arrival).
