The truth is the truth noncommercial property is not taxed the same as a business property is taxed. You pay at the time of the purchase and it’s your free and clear just like everything else you purchase. I couldn’t find a resolution to this case but I’m guessing he spent way more in legal fees than he owed on back taxes. I did see that the 1878 constitution he is relying on was never ratified and so is obsolete and irrelevant. Property taxes are necessary to provide government services we all want to rely on when we need them, like police, fire, and rescue operations. Sure there is corruption and waste that raises the taxes to unnecessary levels but that is a separate issue. Taxes are as old as Biblical times and will never go away.

I’m all for sales and income taxes but property tax is straight theft. If I own the property why the hell am I paying an annual fee to maintain procession of it as if it’s treated like a lease? The only time you should have to pay property tax is if you financed the purchase meaning it’s not completely yours until the loan is paid off but if there’s no loan on it and the ownership is in your name then they shouldn’t be allowed to charge you property tax. You pay sales tax when you bought the land. Do they charge me property tax on my brand new fridge every year? No I paid the sales tax and that was it. Property should be treated the same way
