They are NOT your friends, they are trained in psychology and even if you think they are friendly they are not. Any chance they get they will try to trip you up, make you contradict yourself. They act like assholes for a reason. No one likes border guards, they're doing a job yes but be warned.

I used to travel a lot in my younger years. I'd analyze businesses and provide them with solutions. I remember when the guy selling your ticket and checking your luggage would also be the same guy flying the airplane at the smaller airports. I remember once I was late and they asked me to wait a few minutes to give the plane that was leaving time to come back to the dock to pick me up - that kind of service is long gone today!!!!

For Canadians travelling to the states it has always been a hassle for me. Worst country to get into. Never fly between Canada and Europe via a US airport. Always a hassle in immigration/customs.

I would say Common Sense would apply. Don't be using drugs don't be carrying drugs don't be bringing Firearms don't be drunk and don't be acting stupid in any way shape or form if you have anybody with you that has open warrants for arrest in United States or Canada either don't go or get rid of them or you're going to find yourself in a world of trouble

So ridiculous that the northern border is so tightly controlled while migrants cross the southern border in droves. Canadians cross to shop or vacation, not to use the system or to stay permanently.

If crossing into the USA as s Canadian, the number one "don't" is really simple, just don't cross the darn border period, you'll lose over thirty cents on the dollar, you'll get questioned by both USA, and Canada customs when you return, and if you look ethnic you could get in big trouble for nothing because of some racist prick of a sheriff ! Fortunately, I had good encounters when I used to do this sh*t, but the world's a different place now, and it ain't for the better !

Canada isn't a real country. For this reason their public "authorities" are often insecure and have complexes. It would be funny if they weren't so transparently pathetic.

I don't take any risks when the Canadian customs ask me what I'm bringing I declare the already-opened and half-drunk can of Monsters Energy Drink. They usually roll their eyes but hey, they asked for it (literally).

I just got my passport, can't I just go for a drive into say Blaine, Washington from Surrey,BC and say " I just want to grab a bite to eat, go for a drive, shouldn't be more than a couple hours" the border is literally 20 minutes from my place, does having a new car, passport and a desire to just go for a drive into another country make me suspicious? Help would be appreciated, I drove to the border today but it was busy so decided on another day

What's with the laptop thing, I don't get it. Spell it out for me, I must be missing something. A USA citizen travels into Canada with, among other items, a laptop. What is the problem with doing some remote office work on the laptop while in Canada? Maybe dictating a report. You're a workaholic, catch up on E-mail, call the office back home, then go skiing or see the sites in your Canadian destination? What's wrong with doing that, and what is the problem with saying as much to a Canadian border guard? Agree with the general concept of saying as little as possible, but why is the statement that you might do a little work while in Canada, such a problem? There's a subtlety I'm missing, I hope someone can educate me.
