Garry's Mod isn't dead, but practically every game mode is dead except DarkRP and that's my issue with it, even TTT has like 250 players only now during prime hours vs the 3000-4000 it had 4 years ago.

My whole life I thought garry's mod was a minecraft server or mod or something. Literally have never seen this gameplay or footage or anything before.... I have missed out on everything :(

Trash talking, making enemies and friends with random people.. and most of all, nobody taking anything seriously.

In my opinion, I feel the thing that will keep gmod alive aside from the mods and community in general would be how low end a pc you can run it on. It is opinionated of course, I’ve seen a lot of people say how “hard” it can be to run. And since I play SP only, can’t say how bad servers really are. However, I’ve gotten it running very smoothly on my laptop with (at this current moment) about 350 mods give or take.

However others may take this, it is an old game. It can run for a potato if you make it, it can be “realistic as hell” if you make it. My point being, I think other sandbox games trying to succeed what gmod has done would be kind of difficult with a “modern gaming” mindset. Over the past few years, I’ve seen quite a number of games that kind of die due to either being graphic hogs, cpu/gpa intensive, or just flat out having way too much storage space just to play the vanilla game.

May be late to the party, but I’m curious if anyone else feels the same or disagrees?

s&ndbox will not top gmod no matter how much facepunch wants it to. gmod will live forever, even if it gets removed from the steam store it will continue to live on.

as someone who owns gmod but barely plays it, this is an absolute win

1200 hours and counting. This game will never die for me. I just have on and off months of gmod.

GMod is a unique game and one that has lasted this long and continues to hold strong because a majority of game development companies wouldnt allow you to take assets and game engines and redistribute them for hosting and profit. I mean just look at nintendo, you cant even STREAM there games without legal permission.

Never played gmod as a kid but now I see what I missed

90% of my Steam friends (which are 18 people) I met through Gmod, this includes people I know from real life (school or work) as well. The remaining 10% are from TF2. I never got into DarkRP because I never really got the hang of it but I got hundreds of hours on TTT and sandbox. I miss the fun sessions I had gaslighting people and manipulating them into killing eachother but now it's pretty much a dead game just like the friends I made who haven't been online in months/years. Not having the "Yes, I am the real Garry!" achievement still pisses me off.
