Passion plays a critical role in determining whether or not a singer’s voice will cut through the noise. That’s because it can’t be faked. Riccardo Fabbricone, who makes dynamic and, yes, passionate pop music under the moniker Blanco, certainly knows that. Born and raised in Brescia, a city in northern Italy about a 90-minute drive east from Milan, the giovanotto has taken notes on what works in global pop music. The title track of his ‘Blu Celeste’ album, which topped Italy’s FIMI charts, mixes stuttering Migos-esque flows and auto-tuned vibratos made famous by Post Malone; “Notti In Bianco” kicks off with a “Blanchito baby” tag that would make Maluma blush. Only the drama of that brooding voice stays constant in Blanco’s ever-changing sound. Altogether, ‘Blu Celeste’ is a project that will feel familiar to non-Italian speakers, which is no doubt a reason why it’s been streamed more than 100 million times. Of course, we jumped at the opportunity to invite Blanco into our DSCVR ranks.
