The better Miata

Last year I bought my NB Miata, I never had a car that was so much fun to drive. Fast Forward to now, just picked up my MR-S......😅

Fiero ls swap is the answer

Mine was neat. Needed more power, and I liked the g35 better on most roads. But on a tight curvy road, very little could beat it. Lift and drift.

Safety regulations are something that frustrate me a lot. It caused my parents to grab me a 1st gen Dodge Durango to drive to school every day. Ugh.

This review (among many) has contributed in me having bought 2, it also has contributed to my first crash so there's that. I'd never let go of this car, well unless it's got a tree stuck in the bonnet like my first one. Even had it repainted in a beautiful Sakhir orange last summer.

My first car was a '00 MR2 with 160k, won it off ebay and picked it up in York PA, learned on the drive home what precat failure was. After replacing the cat, the car emptied the oil pan faster than it could empty a quarter tank of gas.
Put a remanufactured engine in at the auto hobby shop at the naval academy in Annapolis. Learned shortly after that 2 of the 6 water pump bolts are longer than the others but DO NOT go in the 2 raised holes on the water pump or the oil turns to starbucks. The car emptied the coolant system faster than it could empty a quarter tank of gas.
Put another remanufactured engine in (they gave me a discount this time) and learned shortly after a long overdue rain that low speed, front end collisions with trees are fatal to the car.

Barely broke even on the insurance payout. I'd do it all again. I learned a lot from that car.

No one is going to mention the shit transmission? That this thing would have been Miata popular with enthusiasts with a clutch pedal! It’s a mid engine AUTOMATIC

The MR2 Spyder with a Celica 2ZZ engine will out walk, out turn alot of cars out there. Im talking about all the so called sport compacts and Honda s2000s.

Had a beautiful 2004 spyder blue, black top, 5 speed and traded my Mazda protege for it only had 89k miles but had to sell it for a scion XB hope you’re having fun owner which I forget your name.

I'm not even impressed by the power to weight ratio of the MR2 I'm more impressed that it weighs less than a miata

ZZW30 is a nice car, and the 1zz-fe engine is mostly fine, but there was a recall for the piston rings that only most of the cars got - so many of them burn horrific amounts of oil. The one in my Celica burnt about 1qt/500miles. So beware lol and 2zz's have an oil starvation problem - so if that has been swapped in, beware of that. Usually fixed with a moroso oil pan, since the stock one came with no baffle.

No, no. The SW20 is an aging athlete who fell off the wagon and has started taking steroids to keep his gains up so he can hang with the younger guys and refuse to admit that he's past his prime. So he's fun to party with, but also keen to throw you into a hedge the first time you wrong him.

If you ask me I think the third GEN MR2 has a lot of character. I’d like one. But one of my good friends would probably crucify me if I did because he’s a first and second GEN type of guy

This car is a monster with a 2ZZ swap. Best buy of my life. I don't care if its ugly. Hardtop make it prettier.

As an enthusiast who has owned all 3 (SC and Turbo, T-tops first 2 gens, 2k1 zzw30), I am 100% behind your conclusion to this video. The AW11 is a caged go-kart with glass, the SW20 is a homicidal, enthusiasts' dream-boat of a money-pit, and the ZZW30 is the single best car I have ever done for my soul (second best car behind mk 7.5 GTi autobahn).

Also of note: The people who matter like the ZZW30 in person a lot more than the other 2 models. Only the "Chad"s who feel threatened by how obviously awesome your life is (to be living with a ZZW30) will ever make beef with your barbie car.

Fun fact:
You can make a Ford rs200 replica out of it.

Its looks are ultra close to the original Car.

I'd replace the 1zz with a k20 instead.

Found and bought a 2001 MR2 Spyder because of this review. A new motor, cat delete, clutch, headlights, clutch master cylinder, windshield, brake lines, e brake cables, rear brake calipers, double din dot matrix Sony head unit, fresh hoses, bolts, plugs, and gaskets later, and I still paid less for it pre-crazy than what the typical post-crazy asking price is. Couple of cheap metal ramps with a weight capacity of 1,500 pounds, and you can do anything on this car shade tree without having to jack it up. People love the car too. I call it the Poorsche.

Just realised how they got their names
The AW10 / AW11 was powered by a 4A,
The SW20 / SW21 was powered by a 3S, &
The ZZW30 was powered by a 1ZZ.
Hence why they’re refereed to as W10’s, W20’s, and W30’s, because the first letter is based on the engine in it.

And now theyre 22k in Australia. You literally cant buy any car anymore. Miatas are 15k now, and half munted at that price. Screw it im only messing with bikes now.

Owned a 2006 Toyota Solara convertible for awhile. Pretty basic car for single aunts but I fell in love with the drop top. I NEED one of these MR2s now
