What would have been great, is a side by side against the Amaran 150-300c, which are like the industry standard at this price point. More importantly in the RGB level as we barely have any reference on these.

The nanlite 60c is in a totally different ballpark

Thanks for the review but Amaran 300C is RGBWW. 200w in CCT and 100W in RGB. Colbor light can also be powered by D-Tap with a maximum power of 100W. Therefore, as the owner of amaran 300c, I want to say that this device is cheaper with similar power. I really liked the review, as I am thinking of buying this light.

Great review. After explaining the green magenta correction of the light you mentioned that it wasn’t up to the quality of the Amaran 200 XS. Does the Amaran 200XS have green magenta tint adjustment? Thanks.

Hello Wes,
Thanks for the very good, in depth review!

I want to buy a rgb led to light my backdrops.
I'm doing portrait photography.

The light would always be positionned at most at 3 feet from the backdrops.
To have exposure at 100iso F/8.0 1/200s
Would this light produce enough light, barely enough, or too much light ?
In cct mode ?
In rgb mode ?

The fact is, I don't know if this light is too much or not enough for my needs...

I like the fact that there are two types of light, cct and rgb and that they are of different power range.
That way it gives more lattitude to create more subtle effects...
I just don't know if it is too powerfull, or not powerfull enough...

Thanks !
:)

Since it can reach 50% when running on battery, does this mean it can utilise full rgb mode on battery? (90W).

Just saw your video, love your reviews. Been using flashes for over 30 years, just get some continuous light lately. Already bought COLBOR CL220R, CL220, CL100X, 2 CL60R & 2 W100... Battery options for CL220R & CL220 are tricky, official website is misleading, providing different informations on the computer, an iPad or an iPhone...

Aputure 2-bay battery power station with 2 v-mount batteries (I tried two 160Wh and two 185Wh) work on both CL220R & CL220, providing 100% power for over 50 minutes. Aputure 2-bay battery power station is quite picky with v-mount batteries, newer designs with LED screens may not work at all due to more advance protective circuit designs. This option is heavy and expensive.

26V v-mount battery can provide 100% power for CL220R for 51 minutes, but max out at 50% for CL220. May be CL 220 is an older design. Need a VM3 cable however, a bit hard to find replacement.

I am glad spectrometer results of COLBOR CL220R are great in color accuracy... may buy another if needed.

Great review! I've seen that inversion of lefty loosey righty tighty happening quite often with products coming out of countries where writing and reading is done from right to left. That sneaks into design choices that feel funny to people used to reading from left to right. No battery power option ? I see on the specs sheet "'Optional V-Mount Battery". How does that work ? How do I get that ? It's important to have that option, even if it's limited power or duration, it's just the type of work that I do. BH has the light on sale now for 280USD.

Okay, the spectrometer results are in and the Colbor CL220R has THE BEST color accuracy of ANY light I've tested. One caveat: it's slightly green, but thankfully this light allows you to click it back toward the red where it wins in all categories, with a CRI of 97.9 and R9 value of 98 (for skin tones). Amazing! This greatly exceeds its sister light, the CL220, which disappointingly only measured a CRI of 95.8 and R9 of 82! (all at 5600K).
