Ten Must Have Spells in Baldur's Gate 3

Just saying, there is an Act 1 staff that allows create water. There’s also a Act 1 item that allows Mist step if im not mistaken. I think I’ve got it on my paladin.

One thing that bugged the HECK out of me with mage hand was that it can’t be used to pick locks by an arcane trickster. Picking locks is half the reason you use mage hand as an arcane trickster in 5e, so attempting that and not having it work was pretty frustrating to me. (Granted, I may be an idiot; let me know if I missed something)

best level 3 spell for me is hunger of hadar, huge AoE, excellent crowd control, and utility. can be paired with other AoE attacks from your party like fireball, black hole, insect plague (love this one), etc

Longstrider is great too.

Or dm's being dicks and saying you can't use guidance at really any time with the old, you can't use it for this check for dm reasons lol

Just started the game recently. Find Familiar saved my character during one of the early fights by blinding an archer that would have downed Shadowheart while I was stuck in a grease spell.

Tip for aid. Bring up your summons first before casting it, then when you cast sid they also get the increased HP

Great discussion! I really prefer this format compared to people showing examples during gameplay. As an engineer, when I see someone demonstrate with gameplay, my brain checks out and all I need to do is duplicate those action(s). However, your discussion forces my me to examine the scenarios and interplay w/ abilities on a more fundamental level (why something is beneficial and/or detrimental). As such, I find much more value in this style of presentation; I can tell you guys are both equal parts knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter! Thank you again for your great video(s). Cloud of Daggers at a singular entry point helped clear those goblins by literally stacking bodies in the doorway.

Hated Shadowheart on my “good” playthrough. So I made my Dark Urge a Cleric of Selune, murdered Shadowheart while she lay unconscious on the beach and just stole that strange artefact from her burnt-to-a-crisp hands.

Y'all should add wall of fite to this. It's a concentration spell, but if you put it right in front of your party, the enemies just walk right into it. Especially the minions.

Dunno, my Shadowheart is life domain and her healing is insane. Plus, because of gear, every time she aoe heals (which she does with cleric slots) she also applies bless and blade ward. Frankly, she make my party immortal.

I actually just tried using grease then fireball. I just finished Elden Ring and am in a fantasy mood. So picked up BG3 and absolutely loving it

Magic missle has gotten me out of so many jams! When you have several enemies with just a few hp u can take them all out

Mage hand…. I hear ppl saying this spell is great all the time… I’d always get it at first, or bring Lazel or someone who had it just in case. I have like 1300 hours in the game and I’ve used it like 3 times and that was just to start fights for me where I knew I’d get surprised, guess I just suck at using it XD

This game is so good I wish I could wipe my memory of it and play it again.

I'd like to give an A+ mention for the comments section. A lot of usefull info.

I used create water to make yugir visible after he went invisible. Wet automatically made him visible again.

For those characters who don't get Misty Step in their class, there are two pairs of boots (Boots of Very Fast Blinking and Disintegrating Night Walkers) that give the wearer this ability and one necklace (Amulet of Misty Step). The Amulet can be found in The Defiled Temple in a chest behind Polma in Act 1. If it is not in the chest, sometimes you can buy it from Omeluum in the Underdark. It can appear in his inventory and costs 65 Gold. The Disintegrating Night Walkers are also in Act 1 and are worn by Nere at the Grymforge and can be looted from his body if you kill him. They can be used once per Short Rest. They also have the benefit of making the wearer impossible to Enweb, Entangle or Ensnare and you won't slip on Grease or Ice. The Boots of Very Fast Blinking give the skill BUT there are downsides. First, they aren't available until you get to Act 3. You can only get them from Akabi the Djinn at the The Circus of the Last Days and most importantly...if you use them you drop ALL your clothing, armors and camp clothing at the place you teleport FROM. The only way to avoid this is by unequipping all such items before you use the spell. One of Akabi's mostly useless Consolation Prizes.

You can also use the Water Bottles! I never realized this...the Water Bottles aren't used as Camp Supplies. But you can throw them to 1) Put out fires...on the ground or on burning characters and 2) to create those water puddles to Electrocute or Freeze. Had a ton of them in Camp that I never knew what they were for. There is very little in BG3 that has NO use. Same with Candles. Never knew but should have...water/wet, candles/fire.

Misty step is also available to Githyanki at a certain level

Thanks for good content as always. I would say that u guys are right in that there isent worth to make a dedicated healer but i find that the life cleric is an huge exception. With items and the inbuild mechanics they are in my opinion the strongest cleric after tempest imho.

I took magic initiate cleric on my TAV warlock just so I could always have guidance. I also took resistance and bless. Resistance is fine, but the bless is really nice.

I've had three arguments recently that tell me people really don't understand basic tactics. Each was a dude telling me that a spell was pointless- longstrider, grease, and create water. If you don't see the value of these spells, then I know why you need a camp buffer to keep your team alive. Even if you never use a spell, you should still be able to acknowledge its value. I have nearly 1,000 hours in the game and I have NEVER used Haste. But I wouldn't call it useless. It's just that my preferred playstyle is not to spend caster resources buffing allies. My casters are expected to help with the fight, not just enable others to do more.

I never not have spiritual weapon, free damage, minon squisher, and distraction.
I was very surprised the see cleric near bottom of most played classes. Theyre beafy buffy machines. My next run I need to give shadowheart some love. Cuase I made a cleric, shes been camp mom lol
