I would have thought that, of any MLP fic out there, Rainbow Factory makes the least sense when removed from its setting. The whole thing of weather control being a deep-rooted part of the economy, and the general oppressive meritocratic undertones in Equestrian society, are prerequisites for the actual conspiracy to work as is.
