I’ve never fished a drop shot before but I’m going to take the next 3 days to try it and see if I have any success. I’ll be fishing a 2000 acre lake loaded with smallmouths and a 5 acre pond with a lot of 1 to 4 lb largemouths. I’m going to master this bad boy or die trying.

If shore fishing & you want your lure 18" (for example) above the bottom, and you're reeling in at 30 degrees (for example) from horizontal, then you're lure is only going to be 9" above the bottom. You'll need 36" between your drop shot and bait. Different if in a boat and a much steeper angle, but still applicable. SINE (angle of retrieve) * (length between drop shot & lure) = vertical distance above bottom.

I fished with the same lure for three days. Flipping and even trolling. White bass went crazy for it.

Great as always content. Been a bank fisherman for 95% of my fishing (50+ years) and learned the hard way unless I KNOW I will encounter no serious brush I ALWAYS wear pants. Protects me from all kinds of nasty thorny itchy brush as well as tics.
And yes more bank fishing videos would be great even though I fully realize fishing public waters from shore is a much more challenging than from a boat.

"Hung in a tree, fish has got my bait..."
Most accurate, REALISTIC, fishing video ever. Bank fishing develops skills that haven't even been thought of before that instance lol. Maybe there's a video there 🤔 how to handle those WTF moments that spring up on us. Anywho love the channel, top quality work and info. Great attitude and spirit, just watching you makes me want to go fishing more and more. Keep em coming brother!

Tips from a 50 year bank fisherman
Basically cover 100% of all exposed skin to protect from the sun insects and vegetation
Always wear pants and at least calf high rubber or neoprene boots a long sleeve shirt for protection from sun biting nasties and vegitation that will give you rashes like poison ivy
And if you even THINK tics or chiggers are a risk I ducktape my pants to my knee high neoprene boots any other way will allow tics or chiggers to crawl up under your pants (dont ask how I know this)
Wear a Lt/WT breathable neck gator that will cover everything but your eyes to protect your neck, face and ears from the sun and from biting insects neck gator will also protect your face and neck from sun burn from UV rays reflected off the water that your hat can not protect you from wear a wide brimmed hat specifically designed to keep the sun off the back of your neck ears and face wear a pair of jursey gloves to protect your hands from the sun (I am fanatical about protection from the sun as skin cancer killed one of my dearest friends a truly truly great guy, husband father fishermanand hunter) biting bugs also just cut out the finger tips so you can tie knots without having to remove your gloves and loose one wear polarized sunglasses or as I do clip ons for my prescription classes carry a small powerful head lamp with red light capability
Use a lanyard to prevent your glasses from going swimming
I ues and strongly recommend wearing a fishing vest that can carry at least four small clear plastic luer boxes that have 5-6 seperat compartments so you can easily carry 20 different luers using retractable key/ID holders with clips to attach my vests D rings a 5" hemostat for hook removal, a small hook sharpen and a small fishing line cutter that cuts braid as nail clippers will not my fishing vest has 30+ pockets that allow me to carry well organized all the different sized hooks different sized weights slip bobbers bobber stops luers a small knife small digital fish de-lier small fish gripper stringer small powerful head lamp fishing license if I plan on bleeding out a salmon or trout and taking eggs ziplok bags surgical gloves hand wipes and paper towels and I go nowhere without my Leatherman Wave GEN1
Also a few frozen bottles of water and a few snacks if Im going to be all day
I found our that absolutely beyond all doubt the smell of sunscreen and insect repellent on your luers (especially soft plastics) is a BIG turn off to fish so I if at all possible avoid using either while fishing.
Lastly if using crawlers or other similar live bait a small cooler with reusable ice blocks to keep bait cool and lively
If its really an all day trip far from my vehicle I will bought a great well made back backpack that also is insulated so I dont have to carry a cooler but can keep my bait and water bottles cool and carry extra food and fishing supplies.

The more bank or wade fishing you do, the more you'll streamline your tackle selection. After about 30 or 35 years of walking and wading, I began to only carry one spinning rod and a pack or two of either: 1)Zoom Finesse worms, 2)Super Flukes, or 3) Senkos. In one of those bags, I carry 3 or 4 worm hooks and/or Spider Slider heads. In the other bag, I like to have either a: 1)#9 Smelt colored Rapala floating minnow, 2)a ⅛oz Stanley Baby Wedge Spinnerbait, or 3)a ⅛oz Grey Minnow or Black Roostertail. I can put these in my pockets or my hat, if I wade over waist deep. Oh, and ALWAYS wear pants!

rod sleeves helped me greatly, as a bank fisher. especially when having to go through thich brush to get to the bank. it seems my fishing line likes to catch everything except fish. buying a fishing backpack helped me out alot, also. helped me deal with all the break-offs, and allowed me to carry the variety of gear I need to adjust to conditions, and find what works.

Good video, great tips. As a regular bank fisherman getting up in age, I found a blunt pointed walking stick to be invaluable hiking up and down slopes and helping with path clearing...looked like you had your hands full with rods and camera tri-pod though. I used to fish Texas rigged plastic worms (sliding sinker to the hook) 75% of the time from the bank but have gotten away from it...thanks for the inspiration to pull the plastics out again and rig a little differently.
