The low comp must've helped a bit with the cylinder cracking issues 4gs can have. Either way solid engine, 4g63 would have to be as good if not better than a 3sgte

Oh man I've been curious about this engine for sooo long. I kept hearing low compression build in random videos but is that a common thing people do with 4G's? Also the perfect person to break this engine down for us. Great vid!

I appreciate the time spent on compression ratios, as I had just commented on an RS Garage video and got a response from Jay on that very topic! Excellent perspectives... For me, it's not the 20 or 30 hp, it's the off boost drivability. I get it though, 100%.

High compression engines compress the air more, and since air is a dielectric material, the denser the air, the harder it becomes to discharge a spark. Part of the reason why high compression engines are more sensitive to detonation is because the spark becomes harder to ignite with high air density. Lower air density has less resistance and allows the spark to jump the gap easier. This is why on turbo modified Hondas you tend to run upgraded ignition systems and tighter clearance on the spark plugs.

dish pistons 7.8:1 cr and spray it to kill the lag. We did that on a gvr4 with a evo3 turbo...clamp the wastegate close and run all the boost.

I really enjoyed this video a lot, i keep seeing the 4g63 online being bashed a lot for requiring so much boost to make power. Jay just made it pretty clear that the engine is intentionally made to be forgiving, not break and last a long time even while taking years of abuse. ❤
