Until this moment, I never even knew there was a remake! I'll have to watch this! I watch the original every 🎄🎁 Christmas season.

Better than expected.
A shame Melinda Dillon couldn't be a part of this. I know she was retired and she passed not long after this came out, but probably one of the few ways this could have been better.

Reading these comments from all these different people praising this movie makes me believe that the entire comment section is a Warner Bros marketing department thread as there’s no way this movie ticks all the boxes as it falls way short of the mark. The crazy situations that are supposed to be funny are not funny at all and the film was clearly made by people with zero talent about lacks the charm, wit & Christmas warmth of the original.

I absolutely loved the original and it’s still a Christmas favourite for my own kids and I but this was extremely disappointing.

The parts where I’m supposed to laugh were terrible. It was very forced. I did like the how much respect they gave his Father and I really wish it had better writers. As child actors they were great but as adults they really struggle. Sat through until the end out of respect for the original and to Darren McGavin as it was paying tribute to his character but was sadly very disappointed.

Wow! I didn’t think it would be good! But it really was! This was a true sequel to the ‘83 film! It did its own thing and yet repsected the original film and had well done references and call backs. THIS is how you do a sequel!

I decided not to see it last year because christmas was over when I finally got the time to see it. It doesn´t feel right to watch a movie like this when it´s not the right season.
So this year was it. I was looking forward to it with nervous expectations since the original is hands down my favorite christmas movie. I loved it. As someone said it had the right amount of nostalgia, but it was also made to stand on it´s own. It´s beneficial to have seen the original, it is. But you don´t have to. That´s the perfect balance.

I lost my father this year, so the references to "the old man" really got to me. They did him good and Billingsley deserves praise for his role in it all.

Ralphie,
Add the normal funeral scene to the movie.
And it would've made more sense.
There was no wake or funeral.
Just as if Ralphie was visiting months after fathers death.

Never understood the timing of Fathers death and family never had a wake or funeral.
Did Ralphie and his family visit weeks later after father buried??
No they didnt.
They went home the next day after hearing of fathers death

I absolutely love this movie, though it hit way too hard. My father had passed not more than 6 months earlier and my mother and I watched this. We laughed, we cried… this is a yearly must now to remember him

A fun movie that continued the spirit of the original. My only complaint was that alcohol played a bigger role than any of the human characters. Name one thing that has ruined more holidays than alcohol.

All i have to say is 👏 👏 👏 This was a nostalgic hysterical comedy tear jerker. I decided to watch this a 4am on Christmas Eve a year later after giving my boy a Red Ryder. I got all the parents I know pajamas with a target 🎯 on them and all the kids Red Ryders 650 shot with the compass that tells time this Christmas. Jokes on them. 🤣🤣🤣 Im waiting for all the Christmas texts that say "Thank you but WTF were you thinking? " 😂😂😂

A Christmas Story is just the best ever and a timeless classic. Then I watched #2, when Ralphie was a teen and got his car, etc., it was darling and a good sequel, but I didnt realize this movie existed where he's grown and a dad. However, I think I cried through the whole first half, "dad", dying, the clips of "dad" with the dogs, lol, when they drove up to the "house on Cleveland Street", any more sentimental issues this movie is going to throw at my heart?!

This movie is excellent this third installment of A Christmas Story is great this time we see Ralphie as an adult and he has his own family and the best part is that Ralphie is played by the original actor and so are Scut Farkus, Flick, Randy, Grover Dill and Schwartz. It’s cool that they got these actors to reprise there roles for this movie. This movie literally lives up to the first one it has the Christmas Story feel to it that we all love and enjoy It is a little emotional cause a character passes away in the movie but it’s such a good film. The acting, directing, and story is great in this movie the whole family can enjoy. If you have not seen this movie then I recommend you do rating 5/5

I watched this last year when it debuted, and to my surprise it was actually really good! Nearly 40 years after the original I think this was a very nice reboot/sequel that offered a new story but maintained a lot of the charm of the original. Even Ralphie's narration reminds me of the original narrator! My only minor nitpick is I wish Melinda Dillon could've returned to reprise her role as Ralphie's mother. I know she retired from acting, but it's the only thing that would've made it even better.

Finally watched the movie after the original turned 40 this year

As an example of a sequel done right Peter Billingsly miraculously carried this very well
He makes his own stamp on the story we all know and love
He has his own mid-life crisis worried he'll never be perfect like when he was a kid
There's plenty of throwbacks and appearances from the original movie that'll please fans
The rest of the supporting players are very lovable
Ends up being very episodic going from one vignette to the next with Ralphie's family experiencing their own misfortunes but ultimately still having the Christmas that brings them together
Sometimes seeing old friends and family members is all that matters and gratitude
The first movie is timeless as can be but this manages to allow a passing of the torch proper without rehashing so much thank god
