You would have to be special to think there is any chance the 12.7mm could compete against a 20mm round. Didn't watch the video, just wanted to comment before blocking channel from my YT feed

I am gonna tell you, when thr spitfire mk9 ran out of 20mm and only had its 12.7mm (50 cal) left that plane beceame half as effective, you could fit so much more high explosives in that 20mm round, it made thr 12,7mm almost useless, if i had to design a plane, i would always take 2x20mm over 4x12,7mm
So no, a 12,7mm doesnt perform nearly as well as a 20mm in air to air combat

These types of weapons are actually best used for destroying parts on tanks and stuff to weaken it

Two really big problems with this video is that it overlooks payload, 20mm can pack more explosives and as such, relies less so on conventional ballistics and more so the charges im within the bullet. Problem 2 is that you seem to harp on the best anti armour 50 cal round (which as far as I’m aware has or is in the process of being taken out of service) and seem to only talk about standard 20mm ammo

I am not an expert by any means, but I know that the 20mm round comes with a multitude of different specialized types including the sabot round for penetrating advanced armor, high explosive rounds for anti-personnel, as well as shaped charges for different types of older armored vehicles I've never ever heard anybody saying that a 50 caliber BMG is better against armor than a 20 mm Vulcan…🤷‍♂️

The days of 20mm being effective and used against tanks are long long gone, let alone .50 cal

And who declared Abrhams to be the "best tank in the world"? It's one of the best but not THE best - all depends on situation, deployment, crew training and tactics...not where it is made. Challenger II is also one of the best depending upon the exact same criteria

It honestly depends on the propellant itself, if you were hit by a low velocity 20mm gun with 1mm long casing I think it will just hit you like a mosquito bite. If you were hit by a 120mm long high velocity .50 cal your limbs would completely detach

Dude the US army doesn't even use the M1A1 Abrams anymore, its an outdated tank thats very bad. Even the tanks used in iraq almost 20years ago were more jodern then the M1A1. Those were M1A2. The current US tanks are the M1A3 and it is far more capable then both M1A1 and M1A2.
Yet even the M1A3 is just an outdated tank from the early 1980s with some added modernizations. There are planty of better tanks avaible on the markets of countries like the UK, France, Germany, Russia, China, Japan, heck even South Korea has better tanks!

What muzzle velocity and projectile mass are we talking about? Like comparing a ShVAK round to a M61 Vulcan round, the Vulcan one is clearly better in every way. Not only diameter, but also length, mass and muzzle velocity matter.

To put it simply the way my Marine corps body would have it put it the 50 cal good for light armor people and just about anything of 50 can punch through 20 mm tanks heavy armor ships you can't hide from a 20 mm you can stop a 50 it takes a bit you can also stop at 20 but it takes a lot more

Terrible misguided info,,,go to military aviation history for a much better explanation on the penetrative power of these rounds, the 20mm cannon far outweighs the 50cal against armour, and it goes back to WW1, saying that both these rounds are pretty useless against armour is being silly, cherry picking info, not a good thing. Just for starters a 20mm is a much larger round with a bigger choice uses, armour piercing, explosive etc, a 50cal is, in the main, a kinetic energy round.
