Yup. saved during lockdown by Sweden. We are still here, 4 years later <3 Kids are fluent in swedish and the system is very balanced. Very modest population. The only negative thing is the taxes ^^

I find it quite nice that Netherlands is the Nordic country of Europe (Yes, we Nordics are us foremost, and then also Europen)

When SSRI:s in Sweden are prescribed like it was candy, can you really boast about being among the happiest countries? Is chemically induced happiness the way to go?

It is well understood why Scandinavian countries have "happy" people or people who feel more secure and feel like they have more agency over their lives. A better question to explore is why Americans eschew high taxes and the social safety net these high taxes could potentially engender while Europeans/Scandinavians embrace it? Also, why do Americans put individuality ahead of community solidarity while many Scandinavians do the opposite? These are the questions that need to be explored imho.

I still don't get it; all the things you mentioned can be said of any of a number of other countries so we are no closer to understanding what the 'difference' is. I personally think that Swedes and Scandinavians are in fact NOT more happy than people in most other developed nations; it's more that they complain less and are more positive about what they've got. It's not that life is better, but that people are more okay with what they've got.

For exmaple, NZ has an almost identical set of characteristics as Scandanvia yet Kiwis are more likl;ey to claim they are not happy, even though they actually are just as happy as Scands.

Overtime is expensive for the employer, so it's often forbidden.
Employees are often enforced to use their vacation days, the employers don't want overworked zombies who don't really produce.

Level of corruption in Sweden is actually quite high, we just don't call it corruption, we call it, being nice to a friend, and giving the a job that they aren't really qualified for, freedom of speach is also BS in Sweden, it's just that we mostly police speech through social pressure, if you express unpopular opinions, you will be cast out of society, people will freeze you out, an Swedes will turn on a dime in any question, depending on what the MSM is pushing, it's a nation of Zombies, everybody hates NATO, then the next day everybody wants to join, and all the political parties have the exact same opinions, it's not a democracy, it's at best a dictocracy, We are not happy, we are just to polite to tell the truth, Sweden is hell.
