What about a 28 handicapper? With that method, I chunk 70% and thin 25%, with occasional air shot, due to yips.

I will try this today. But this video is good because it only stresses 2-3 items and not too long…Instead of many videos that drone on too long with too many items and oh-by-the-ways and little other distractions.

Useful tips, think the video could've highlighted the key points a bit more and been a couple of minutes shorter for ease of absorbing the info.

He mentioned his challenges with chipping, bad habits etc.
Thanks for keeping it real.

My problem is that the ball tends to go to the left.

The advice is great on the technique and it makes for consistent chipping. My problem however is if the lie is not great I start to overthink adjustments. ie. ball landing on a hilly slope near the green or in rough grass or even between bushes with no grass on the ground.

That's pure gold, Ali, thanks a lot! Using the putting grip on chipping opened a new dimension for my short game.

I have had tremendous success with Mickelson’s ‘hinge and hold’ technique, but it necessarily involves a lot of shat lean. How can reconcile your advice with Phil’s?

tried your method today, worked great.... was even using it from 30 yds out with a gap wedge (50*). Thank you!!!

Excellent demo, will try, short game is trouble for me.... don't know how many times 10 - 30yds from green in 2, and end up with a double bogey 6....

One thing you forget to mention is wrist hinge or lack of.... most amateurs tend to think short shots are feel shots, with hands, just like Seve.

Chipping and putting is the only areas that us amateurs can be close to the professionals, unfortunately we don’t spend enough time practicing at it. We should spend 75% at the short game area and 25% at the driving range.

Ali, I notice you don’t rotate fully in the finish. I understand it’s more of a putting stroke, but do you think more rotation (chest points to target at finish) would make the shots better?

I have had many times over the last several years where I get some chippy yips, and its specifically a weird shanky thing that goes like 75 degrees right. When I do that a few times out of 10 it messes with my head and I resort to essentially putting with the wedge to be safe. I've got a lot better and have figured out what caused it, but it still happens a rare once in a while. Besides the weird shanks my short game might be the best part of my game, I can legitimately hit Mickelson flop shots accurately. I also started doing a PW bump n run instead of lob wedge pitches when I'm able to, much more consistent with that. Overall though, learning to use the bounce on my wedges made a large difference in regualr pitches
