I think as soon as the kid saw the two squared numbers, he recognised the latter right away. So he moved to add the base numbers right away (probably the most tedious part) and did the super easy subtraction and multiplication parts in a jiffy.

a² - ab + ab - b² =

As a 8 year old, i can solve this. (Because i am best in math.)
First. Calculate 255²
255²= 510
Second, calculate 245²
245²=490
Now, We know the calculation. So that means we will do
510-490=20
