Got a 7 string to record heavy music. Love it and it does for me what I need.
However never properly learning how to play, it has greatly stunted my ability to learn how to play.
Feel like learning scales and chords is much easier on a 6
Video title: don’t buy a 7 string guitar
Me: ok 8 string it is
Too late bro.....
Ответитьi like playing a standard or drop g with 7 26.5
ОтветитьMan, please let me know the reason why don’t you enjoy 6 strings in drop A? No hate. Hope you see my question. 🙏
ОтветитьI bought a 7 string bc it was cheaper than a baritone at the moment 😂 so I was down tuning only 6 and playing it like that but now I'm alot better of a player lol this was also like 4 years ago
ОтветитьI got a 7-string because the band I was in at the time played in drop-B and it's a nightmare to tune on a 6-string. So I just got a 7 and dropped the B to A and put capo on 2nd fret, whole lot easier. :D
When it comes to heaviness, I always argue that Sad But True is still one of, if not, the heaviest songs out there, right from the get go. And a big part of that is the overall sound. It punches you in the gut.
When I started getting into super heavy music like 15 years ago, I did a lot of research and decided I was going to get an 8 string. Upon finding one and testing it out though, I actually hated it. Going from a 6 to 8 string is like switching to an entirely new instrument. So, I tried out a 7 string. INSTANTLY fell in love with it. So much so, that I will NEVER buy a 6 string again. Ever. The 7 was actually very comfortable and easy to pick up for me.
Ответитьthe lesson here, music theory kills creativity.
ОтветитьThis video is kinda interesting, I’m coming from the pov of being a 6 string player for a very long time, but also past 18 months playing a 5 string bass, but I need a lower tuning guitar, I’ve got on order a Schecter demon 7 string to try out, but knowing I also want the 6 string version, and then someone threw into the mix the idea of a baritone, you could say I’m confused 🤷🏻
ОтветитьI Just ordered a mahogany Strat body and a 27” (maple neck/rosewood FB) to build a custom HSH pickup configuration Strat, had all the emgs sitting around from other guitars so I just ordered a Strat pick guard and emg brand kill switch, and it’s ready to go after I stain it.
Gonna be my first baritone 6.
I have a 27” 7 string but I just don’t feel as comfortable on it as a 6.
Love the channel man. Keep up the good work
i've played a 6 string upside down (Strung properly) for most my life, i finally bought a real left handed guitar and it happened to be a 7 string and honestly i would rather play the upside down guitar than the 7 string.
ОтветитьI did it just like you said, tune it to drop A and have that extra fun with the standard tuning :) I always struggled with drop tunings with the 6 string other than drop D because my muscle memory is used to the notes on the frets. I really like my 7 string but I can see why it is not a good choice for some and to be honest if you buy a cheaper one you'll have more issues with it than a regular cheap 6 string. My Jackson JS22-7 is a cheap one and still not great even though I see it as a good base where I change some stuff and it could be great.
ОтветитьC standard is low as I would tune on 6 string 25.5 scale
B tuning literally means extended scale or a thicker bass string to accommodate that extra slack. Low tuning literally means less tension.
his wallpaper is korn lol the exact reason i want a 7 string
ОтветитьYeah… I like Drop-F breakdowns, I’m tired of re-tuning halfway through recording a song, I’ll use the mid-range for thrash and string skipping sections, and I like to add leads even if they’re just simple melodic leads that outline the chord progression of the chorus. I think it’s time. 🫤
ОтветитьI think the 7s are more expensive because of the pickups and extra hardware like the bridge and pegs.
Ответить7 and 8s were actually invented to play Jazz. Why would I take advice from a bloke about them who doesn't even know that
ОтветитьGood points glad I watched
ОтветитьPro tip: play bass
ОтветитьPOV: a guy explaining why you shouldnt book a session with him 😂😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьRon Esheté has been playing seven string guitar for years.
ОтветитьThis man is trying to trick you into being a LAME 6 string player. If you are COOL, buy a 7 string.
ОтветитьPart of me wants a cool looking 7 string, the other part of me is just used to getting those tones from the transpose function on my plugins. It doesn’t sound the same sure but scratches the itch.
ОтветитьGot a 7 string kinda regretting it at first, second guessed getting a baritone 6string, it was a 27 inch Jericho to play in Drop F, I was wishing it was longer even tho it held up fine once set up. I don’t solo or shred, but once I got familiar and started writing, I found my self actually using the high E string a lot for a bunch of the ambient/emotional Melodie’s, so no regrets, but for sure get a 27inch or longer from Drop F.
ОтветитьI only own a 7 string, playing a 6 string feels weird to me at this point. I love the harmonic capabilities of just one extra string. I even use it clean AT CHURCH and it's awesome
ОтветитьDo you know the Digitech Drop Pedal? Would like to see what you think of that as a baritone guitar player
Ответитьi just want to tune to drop A without loosing the high e string
ОтветитьGood video. I just bought a js22-7 with the maple board which yoy reviewed an equivalent of and said it was decent and I wanted to learned some polyphia riffs as well as some other songs that just require that lower octave so I feel more needed as the music I listen to are going towards that direction
Ответитьdamn bro my bad i ended up buying 3 7 strings sorry
ОтветитьGreat video to make. The amount of extra work you gotta do to overcome the clunkiness of an extra string is worth it for so few people. I stuck with it but only because I got a dope evertune one, and that part I’m in love with. Prolly shoulda gotten a baritone but here we are lol
ОтветитьSeven string guitars are perfectly reasonable if you have six fingers on your fretting hand.
ОтветитьI <3 my seven string since getting it i have adopted 7 string as my standard ...i play deathcore & it gives that freaking DEMOLISHING sound that gives metalheads a metaphorical breakdown stiffy. ;P
BUT advice-
To avoid devoloping a (possibly) bad/creativity -limiting habit of only or overusing just popping that low low, try to especially at first play your 7 string as a 6 string also a.k.a. practice ignoring the lowest string until you get used to the positioning of all the other strings in the new, thicker than youre used to neck....just my opinion obviously do whatever t.f. u want :)
I have one 7 and was thinking about getting another before trying it out with my DigiTech drop pedal and playing a couple of 6 in drop D through it too. I’m considering a new guitar and it’s available as both. I’m planning on trying out a version of what I want as a 6, and a similar 7 to get a better feel for it before ordering a variant.
ОтветитьI can't say you didn't address all my questions.
Well done.
Man I've got a 7 in an alternate drop E tuning to play a bunch of Egyptian style songs. 26.5 can go real low. It's all about the string gauge and set up to be honest.
ОтветитьGuys! The he said so much, including you: yes, you can change the tuning easy from E to B like said
@nissenilsson9158 in the coment below, and so on, but everyone seems to have forgotten the most important thing - this is the sound! In my personal experience and logically, too, the main overtones come from the neck and scales length (which is logical, the string vibrates much more often than the length of the scale, hence the baritone of the guitar). But! Because of this, it sounds "Wider". The sound is deeper and richer. Look, for example, at Andy James or Jeff Loomis - they both play seven-strings , but they almost never use the seventh string in their solos. But what cool solos. so think about it. have fun ^^
IMO baritone six over downtuned six! But me - playing in a eight string band (yeah thats one of their signature things) .. i still want to do the high solos I am used to ...so depsite my initial doubts I find the extended range of an eight string an adventage over a baritone and/or downtuned six
ОтветитьEZ, you don't lose register. If you still want to play heavy things and be able to use high notes, get a 7 string.
Otherwise if you don't really need that much register, stay on 6 strings.
I got my 7 string for Korn songs 🤷🏽♂️
Ответить7 strings made sense to me because I can play a lower tuning and still have the full standard range.
ОтветитьThen andy wrote songs in lower tunings.
ОтветитьI love quirky guitars. I have a 7 string acoustic for jazzy stuff and a 6 string baritone tele which is surprisingly a quite decent djent machine (noiseless singles do help) in B standard.
ОтветитьThank for the video. Very instructive & useful. I was wondering... yes adding an extra seven string may be add a bit of learning curve. But I guess playing on a regular 6 strings with different tunings may also add a lot of learning curve before mastering all those tunings... even if you keep only 3 of them: 1 standard E + 1 drop D + 1 standard D or C for instance. My poor brain :( Do I need to go back to piano :D :D :D
ОтветитьI am left handed. I've gotten to try 1 left handed guitar, a Kiesel my buddy had. I've always wanted one wilthout comitting heavy cash to get a lefty, at 25.5" scale length. But I usually play thrash in standard and death metal in C#. Do I need a 7!? Revocation makes it sound cool.
ОтветитьLol drop tuning and extra low strings on a guitar make me laugh.. like just play a bass if you wanna paly that low 😂🤷♀️ standard tuning is the jam most of the best rock songs of all time are standard e
ОтветитьI often look at guitars on the internet thinking to myself: Maybe this could be my next guitar. But then i always realize: Man i love my Solar guitar and i don't feel the need to get another guitar that i will probaply not fall in love with as much with. That's why i descided that my next guitar has to be something different from what i already got. I love Monuments and Periphery and they play on seven strings. So in order to discover this part of the guitar realm i want a seven string guitar. But i have very specific needs. I want a fanfret, stainless steel frets, neck through and a crazy colour. Something like pink eye poplar burst. I haven't found this guitar yet.
Ответитьthis is all subjective talk to be honest some can some can't if you can't play a 7 string that doesn't take anything from you at all having more strings or scale length doesn't make you a better or worst musician
ОтветитьI started playing 7 strings because the neck being wider actually felt more comfortable for me to play versus a 6 string.
Ответить
