Written by Jeff Cook, Teddy Gentry, and Randy Owen of the American country band 'Alabama' in 1982, the song was released as a single from the RCA Nashville compilation album, "A Country Christmas" the same year. The Christmas song celebrates the Holiday in the southern US. It was included on Alabama's first Christmas album, "Alabama Christmas,' released in 1985 and has since been included in many Christmas compilations in both the country and all-genre music fields. The original version was on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in late 1982 and early 1983, peaking at No. 35. It re-entered the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart three times between 1997 and 2000. For me, this song has a special meaning. I actually grew up in a small hamlet called 'Dixie' in southern Victoria, Australia and this song makes me think of my childhood Christmases. It is very melodious and has some beautiful harmonies. I hope you enjoy my interpretation for accordion.
