Take a look into a slice of Lambda Literary's 2023 Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices!
In the heat of the summer in Philadelphia, PA, over 100 LGBTQIA+ writers gathered in person and online for a week of creativity, community building, and literature magic.
Thank you to our Screenwriting Faculty, Ashton Pina, for creating this piece of art that encapsulates so well what we at Lambda Literary do together with our community.
Thank you to féi hernandez for offering your beautiful poetry. Find the poem in full below.
“You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.”—Mary Oliver
when the small animal of our bodies sky
we can trust we have found sanctuary
safety is animalistic
bares it’s alabaster fangs at the night sky
when threatened
yet
shivers gently at the puppy of another’s touch
love is the only abstract that can giggle in the sound of us faun children
pen and paper children
laughing and laughing
and talk laughing around our last supper children
how complex our collective wolf
the way we can split in packs
yet find ourself singularly naked
in a river looking up at the slice of our sky
whole
understanding that this
here ecosystem of our collective survival
has always been
the dna marking us a collective fittest ,
today marks a suspended
graceful noon
the most wide wild grin
the most winding wind
the most wild wind
